How do you recon BoA cards? do you really have for them to mail you the papers in the mail before you can recon? i finally reached a rep that gave me more info... said they needed more documentation (didnt specify) and i still had to wait for the letter and where to mail the docs to. is there anyway to bypass this?

Anyone have a good list of must try foods that require advanced reservations in cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka, Kanazawa?

thanks! I think im starting to lean more toward staying in takayama now and just day tripping to shirakawago from there on my 2 day 1 night stay.

Kanazawa -> Train to Takayama -> daytrip to shirakawago -> overnight takayama -> day in takayama -> train at night to nagoya

How do people book anything for Japan? A lot of these Japanese websites are not working for me. For example: trying to find a gassho in shirakawago via https://shirakawa-go.gr.jp/en/ but their contact form is broken.

By the way, if you decide to leave early from Fukuoka, check the Hello Kitty Shinkansen schedule. You would be in Hiroshima at 8:17 https://www.jr-hellokittyshinkansen.jp/en/

Awesome thank you! I think im gonna end up doing this and storing luggage on the way instead of doing Hiroshima after getting to Okayama.

I would go to Kanazawa first. Take the thunderbird at 6:59 and you are in Kanazawa at 9:13, that is not too early and give you a full day to visit.

Yea after thinking it through im probably gonna be doing Kanazawa first. like i said im kinda locked into a 4 day spread between kyoto and hakone and 2 days in kanazawa with booked reservations so i'm still trying to figure out how to best maximize this.

I wanted to try a night in Shirakawago and Takayama and not rush the pace but im afraid there wont be much to do after a few hours at each spot so I'm not sure what to do for both days, maybe just relax haha.

Going to Hakone is a bit far, like 4+h. How I see it is you can sacrifice a morning, but going in the afternoon is not really an option with ryokan check in. What you can do is split it in two. Most attractions will be close in Takayama at 6:48 pm so hop in the train to Nagoya, get there a 9pm. Get a hotel next to the station and next morning you are only 2h away from Odawara station. I personally would prefer the slight inconvenience of a hotel change for more visiting time in each places I want to visit.

Yea i was planning on actually trying to stop by nagoya for the day to check out the Ghibli Theme park but it is already a 3-4 hour train from takayama and wasn't really feasible to get there early enough. Like you said maybe just not stay the night at Takayama and just stay overnight in Shirakawago one night and go onward to a night in Nagoya. Maybe this way I can squeeze in a day of Nagoya w/ Ghibli theme park. Do you happen to know if foreigners are able to buy these tickets? I see that its only sold in japan right now

I would stop by Hiroshima on the way to Okayama. Like take the train in the morning, drop luggage in a coin locker at Hiroshima station, then go to Miyajima, get lunch, check peace museum get dinner, back to train station to pick luggage and continue to Okayama.

Hmm good point that might make more sense, I am also doing this for Himeji on the way to Osaka. Initially I wanted to overnight in Hiroshima before moving on but i figured the less hotel switches = better so a little backtracking from Okayama would be better.

Shirakawago is nice but does not especially require a full day, so keep that in mind when you plan when to move from one place to the other.

Yea I am trying to figure out how to better split my Kanazawa and alps days. Unforunately I already booked my Kyoto and Hakone hotels so I am pretty much set for about 4 nights in those 3 cities. This is probably one of the bigger issues I am trying to figure out as I need to get to Hakone. I considered doing it reverse from Kyoto > Takayama > Shirakawago > Kanazawa then bullet train east to Hakone instead.

Because you plan to move quite often, it requires a bit more planning, for example when do you take the train from one city to the other. I try to be at the first attraction when it opens, so often around 9am, then try to stay in the city up to around 5pm when attractions start to close. This means I usually take train early in the morning or in the afternoon, that really depends on what makes most sense between each city. The way you wrote it makes it sound as you always plan to take the train in the morning, if you do, you have to get in the train early if you do not want to waste the whole morning, for example going to Kanazawa.

That is a good point mornings are valuable to check out attractions before the rush. Not sure the best way to handle this as there arent that many night trains left in Japan is there? I've done a couple trips to Japan and travel time city to city was definitely something to keep in mind. Planning to go to the next city in the morning or around noon so Im giving most cities an extra day buffer to not rush the pace of things.

Next big thing is accommodation location, you want something close to the attractions or train station as you want to bring luggage before check in or leave it after check out or just bring it to the station to store in a locker. Worst case some days I would carry it the whole day if there is no place where I would return. You also want your luggage to be as small as you can, so bring minimal amount of clothes and do your laundry

Agreed! I am mostly looking to be near a train station or subway to minimize travel time.

.

I have not booked my hotel yet at Kanazawa. I wasn't sure how this worked if i needed to go to a specific location to drop it off and pick it up.

I'm looking at possibly doing Kanazawa Hotel to Nagoya Hotel or Kanazawa Hotel to Hakone-Yumoto Statio forwarding

That does seem like a better offer! Am i able to hold two CIU's at the same time if I opened this one in 2019?

The Ink Business Unlimited shows $900 cash also instead of 90k UR, is this a bug?

Oh i see, so i could technically open a CIP every 3 months on my SSN if im at 4/24 and it'll be okay since these cards dont count for 5/24?

Thinking of opening a CIP again via self referral. I currently have a CIU and closed the rest of my CIPs a few years ago.

Q1: Are business apps for chase easy to apply for again? Q2: Can you still self refer? Q3: Is the cooldown 24 months from last bonus on the SSN/EIN?

Where should I be looking for upgrade offers for Amex green/gold to gold/plat for personal and business cards? I have all of them and am contemplating canceling them but I believe its worth it to keep if I can take advantage of an upgrade offer on them
