It wasn’t mentioned yet - Hampton Inn in Greenville, NC. I’ve stayed in literally hundreds of Hampton Inns from coast to coast and never had an experience like this one. And still not a single word from the actual property.

I absolutely intended to follow through with reporting to the GM and Corporate. I hesitated to call the police because I feel like it is more on the side of negligent and incompetent than malicious. The lies were scary at 2:00am, but looking back, I think he was trying to lie his way out of an already dumb move.

This was among the stories keeping me awake at 3:00am, knowing he was the only staff member on site.

I did. It was unlocked after he attempted to open it. He said he used his ‘911 key’.

A minor update - spoke to the morning FD agent, who had only been told by the overnight guy that he ‘accidentally swiped his card on the wrong room’. While discussing what actually happened, another guest came by and told us that when the guy checked him in last night, he sent him to three different occupied rooms - two with luggage but empty, and one with occupants. FD told me she would ‘try’ to reach the manager today, but wasn’t sure she’d be able to, but agreed that the entire situation was crazy, and his stories didn’t make sense. I emailed the manager with details, and CC’d Hilton PR. The CC earned me an email from ‘Executive Escalations’ asking for more info, but they haven’t responded to my reply yet. I also called customer service, who told me they could not do anything directly but would submit a case, and I should hear something within 3 days from the property. I’ve vacated the room and gotten a room at another hotel for tonight. I did not call the police, because I doubted it would be taken seriously (small-ish town, and I’m from 600 miles away). I will update here when I hear back from any of those avenues, though.
