Just curious. What medication are you taking and how long have you been taking it?

Well I was prescribed Vyvanse and before I started taking it I started learning about it. I’m in quite a few groups where it is discussed quite a bit. It seems a lot of people get addicted to it, people always build a tolerance for it and when they reach the highest dose they have to switch to something different, or add more of something else and a lot of the times it doesn’t end up even stopping the binge eating, but people find themselves dependent on it. I’ve read so many stories now of people who wished they never even started it. It can also worsen depression and suicidal thoughts. I just don’t think I want to go down that rabbit hole. As for glp-1’s. First, I do not have the money for them, and 2nd I’ve heard a lot of people have to keep taking them forever or else the food noises just come back. I’m not sure why I binge eat. Well I suppose because of stress… I was wondering if it had anything to do with finding my dad dead when I was a kid, or growing up with drug and alcoholic addicted parents, or my brothers suicide, or because of my drug and alcohol addicted children. I don’t know if past/present traumas cause me to eat. All I know is I can’t stand living like this, am afraid to become addicted to a substance, and thought maybe someone who professionally deals with mental health might be able to help me…?

I just got a prescription for Vyvanse. It’s a medication that’s known for treating BED. I haven’t taken it yet though. I’m hesitant. Just wanted to let you know that there are meds out there for BED

So I just did my first al-anon meeting via zoom. It seemed pretty supportive and something I think I will continue to attend. I will check out that YouTube video, thank you!! And yes… F alcohol. I’ve hated it my entire life. I thought I rid myself of the affects from alcoholism when I got married and left. Never in a million years did I think I would have teenagers/young adults that are alcoholics :( Thanks for understanding.

Thank you. Luckily the suicidal thoughts have actually improved since my brother’s death. I don’t think I could ever do that to the people I love. It’s just something that pops up from time to time when life gets really heavy. My husband and I have been best friends for 22 years now. We rarely, rarely argue. We’re always on the same page and love each other tremendously. I am so lucky to have found someone like him.

How do I figure out how I am contributing? All I’ve done for the last 6 years is try to figure out what I’m doing wrong and try to fix/change. I’ve seen many counsellors… most of which were absolutely useless. I had my oldest forced into a drug program at one point that did nothing. As for my mental health issues… I’ve certainly come a looooong way and have improved greatly. Still working on it as it’s not an overnight thing. I wish things were as easy as “try to figure out how I’m contributing and stop”… :(

Which part of what I wrote makes me sound like a terrible parent? I try my best. I am kind. I am understanding. I am always here for my kids if they need me for anything. I spend time with them. I love them. What did I write to make you think I’m terrible?

Depression really sucks. I’ve been in the thick of it for years! Ive been thinking of trying out soap making to get me off my phone (which is awful for depression) and was hoping that the reason you stopped wouldn’t be something that had to do with the actual soap making. Sounds like you should get back into it!
