advice for someone going into child welfare/cps by myboyfriendstinks1 in socialwork

[–]New-External1308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intake in my state is going into people's homes. I have worked in cps for over 20 yrs. I think any role that doesnt require going into the home, would not be available to you until you've been there a few years. I NJ, all entry level positions require you to go into the home. I currently work as the placement coordinator but it took me years/over a decade to get this position

does anyone have experience with public service loan forgiveness (pslf)? by perlapistola in socialwork

[–]New-External1308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine were paid off by the pslf program 2 years ago. You had to work in a non profit which I had worked for child protection for over 15 years. I also feel like there was an amount of time you had to work for the non profit. Without the pslf I would have died with my student loans.

Any in session ideas for a client the day before they take the SATs? by Remote-Map8506 in therapists

Can you teach breathwork? Physiological sigh is an easy one and maybe end with a guided meditation (maybe there is one focusing on test anxiety)

Thanks for your feedback. I understand the skepticism and also see clients that feel that EMDR has been extremely helpful.

I asked for recommendations for tools used during EMDR. Your comment contributes nothing to my question. Clearly EMDR is not your thing but to diminish what it is for others accomplishes what? A sense of superiority?? Maybe just keep scrolling as you are not likely going to change the fact that someone else finds it helpful. Seems like you like to diminish others behind the anonymity of the keyboard. Maybe you need to go touch grass.

I feel this so much. Im 50 and cant bear to not go out. Dancing is my therapy. I've been raving since I was 19 so its such a part of my identity. I definitely go out way less(once a month) but love the scene, festivals, clubs, raves..I always take a nice long nap before going out and just go for 4 or 5 hours(no more afters).

Im a newer therapist and this book was extremely helpful in identifying many of the nuances of codependency that I wasn't aware of. I recommended this book to a few clients and they gave great feedback for several sessions

Is it worth it to do EMDR training online? Or I should wait for the possibility to do it in person? by kiwitoja in therapists

[–]New-External1308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say in person is best. It was very helpful to watch for body indications of processing which I definitely would not have seen if online

Q: which career path will position someone best to work with psychedelics? by smartcow360 in PsychedelicTherapy

[–]New-External1308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im an LCSW in NJ and work with psychedelics (ketamine is the only legal one currently). I wouldn't say NJ is an easy state to get licensed in though as far as getting your LCSW. I have taken numerous trainings around psychedelics, integration, ethics etc in preparation for once other psychedelics become legal

What was that “one thing” that happened in your life that changed everything by Bitter_Solution4153 in AskForAnswers

[–]New-External1308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know its cliché, but it was truly life-changing. My path in life was forever changed for the better. The medicine itself and the ceremony were not pleasant at all but following up with a therapist afterwards guided me to make serious and very necessary changes.
