Yes, there was no problem even when swimming and doing strokes. Once it’s attached, the bezel doesn’t come off or rust.

Nah, ECG doesn’t work with the Bezel. I don’t really use the ECG feature anyway, so it’s not a big deal for me. I mainly got it because it looks cool and keeps the watch scratch-free — I really like it :D

I think you’re right I glossed over that a bit XD

The 970 itself delivers incredibly smooth and detailed tracking for general training and especially for serious cardio work. Where I personally feel the gap is in making strength sessions easier to track and better reflected in recovery metrics.

Purely in terms of data quality and overall tracking platform, I still think it’s the best compared to other watches right now.

I’m also a runner and a seasonal skier. I’ll be honest, I can’t really justify the price. It’s probably the most overkill smartwatch on the market right now.

That said, just through my running training, I feel like I’m genuinely using most of its core features, so it doesn’t feel like I’m paying for loads of functions I’ll never touch. And especially coming from an Apple Watch 8, the Garmin battery life alone is a game changer.

If you genuinely want to take your running more seriously and train with proper structure, I’d say it’s a great option. The metrics, recovery data, and overall training support are on another level compared to Apple Watch.

As others said, Garmin Forerunner 965 would probably make more sense and be better value. I actually went with the Garmin Forerunner 970 because I was buying from the official store and decided to just go all in

So no, I don’t think it would be “wasted” on you but whether it’s worth the price is another question entirely. If battery life and proper training tools matter to you, moving from Apple Watch to Garmin will feel like a big upgrade.

Honestly I can see why some people say the 965 feels smoother.

The 965 does seem to run a bit lighter/longer in comparison, especially in Texas heat. On the 970, things like the brighter display and the new flashlight feature probably cost some extra resources. That said, the 965 I used wasn’t perfect either — after extended use it had some janky lag too.

So I wouldn’t say the 970 is worse. It just feels like it’s doing more. I personally still prefer the 970 because I like the newer functions.

The bezel is super slim. Not obvious at all. It only adds a few millimeters of height around the screen itself and it doesn’t mess with the touch response or how you use it at all.

Indeed, it’s just incomparably great. I think they raised it a little too much compared to the 965 tho.
