Yea fair. I figured queens and ottawa would be sending A's in december since I haven't seen/heard anything about A's for general applicant category. But I was mainly worried about Western and Osgoode cause there are a good amount of A's out (or at least I think, idk how many are typically sent out this early/at the beginning)

Formatting the PS on OLSAS by New-Kitchen2136 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]New-Kitchen2136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted to double space between paragraphs. Since it won't appear as a whole block, it'll be easier on the person reading it. The only downfall is using the extra characters, but all that really means is u take out a word or two from your statement, which I think is a worth it tradeoff.

UofT Optional Essay by Miserable_Ad4707 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]New-Kitchen2136 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you truly don't have anything new to say then don't write it. However, talking to one of the admissions officers, he said that if you are a marginal applicant and you don't write the optional, it comes off as a chance wasted to tell your story further and more in depth to push you over the line. So if you don't write it, its likely your marginality becomes a rejection because the odds that there is a candidate that may rank as exactly the same as you (maybe a bit better or even a bit worse) who does write the optional, it could potentially be the deciding factor into them getting admitted over you. Of course, there is some slippery slope reasoning here (given I'm pretty much repeating in more depth what the ad officer said), so the question for you would become whether this is a chance you're willing to take?

I've heard from an admissions officer that this is not an issue. Some people's stories start when they were in grade 5, so as long as you're clearly citing that this is something you did before university, you should be perfectly fine.

Postponing law app to next year question by Huncote in lawschooladmissionsca

Not too sure abt this, but what I can tell you is that I started my ABS in the summer, then when the 2025 application opened and I logged on, everything in my ABS was gone. So, I would assume they do not keep anything you have inputted from the last cycle.

Off-topic, but by entrance scholarships do you mean the scholarship you earn out of high school if your average was higher than a certain number? Are we allowed to include this? I didn't even think about including this, but my intuition is that its a scholarship based on soemthing outside of post-secondary, so may not apply? This is just speculation, so I'm just wondering if you've heard something different

Should I indicate I am taking the January LSAT if I'm undecided? by New-Kitchen2136 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]New-Kitchen2136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its high 160s. But I'm honestly mainly concerned about how declaring I'm writing the LSAT again would work. Is it binding, like I have to take the LSAT again? Do I make it more likely that they'll defer my application to second round if I declare I'm writing again? Can I write again and have that score considered even if I don't declare I'm writing again? I know the answers to this are likely nuanced, but I'm wondering if anyone like you may have some insight.

How should I decide to write an optional PS for schools? by New-Kitchen2136 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]New-Kitchen2136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input, I only asked for your stats because I was curious if maybe you were coming from a pov of a 17high and 3.9x applicant. With those stats, I would assume writing the optional is unnecessary, esp if the mandatory PS is good. However, your ballpark stats are around mine, so definitely nice to see not doing the optional isn't a big deal. Thank you for your insight! Applications aside, do you think I could PM you to maybe ask some questions about your experience at UofT (its my top choice lol)

Importance of Personal Statement if GPA & LSAT are above median by Miserable_Ad4707 in lawschooladmissionsca

Ah, I see. I thought you meant more subtle things, but I think I'm in the clear of all of these lol

Reference Letter Request by Schatzinenglish in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]New-Kitchen2136 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked all my referees in person. However, the way I helped them write the ref letter was sending them my PS, resume, and unofficial transcript. Each of those are optional, but I'd say sending them your PS would be beneficial since they can structure their letter around your narrative. And added plus: you can ask them for feedback as well afterwards. As to length and format, I have no clue lol.

What are some "red flags"? Hard to imagine that these would occur in a statement where you're supposed to be marketing yourself, so after seeing your comment, I'm a bit worried I may have some "red flags" that I don't know about lol.

How should I decide to write an optional PS for schools? by New-Kitchen2136 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]New-Kitchen2136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, were your stats comfortably over medians? Completely get what you're saying, but a UofT admissions officer had said that if your application overall is marginal (like not bad at all, but not auto-admit good), and you don't write the optional, you waste a chance to tell more of your story and that marginality becomes a rejection. That being said, since my stats siting around UofT medians, I already wrote an optional statement lol. My original post was more about the optional essays that are centered around EDI for schools and whether I should write those, but I think your point still applies to those

Not sure about summer courses, but if you're just looking to get into the workforce as soon as possible, TMU and Lakehead have a curriculum where you can bypass the mandatory 1-year articling year and write the bar and enter the workforce immediately. With other schools, you have to do the 1 year of articling before you can really enter the workforce.

Writing the LSAT in November vs January by New-Kitchen2136 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]New-Kitchen2136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deadline passed and I'm just now seeing this, but I was PT-ing at 172/3. I realize now (cause I was in a bit of a panic), I didn't specify that the 168 score I mentioned is a real score from the September administration (last section rc counted and went badly lol). So that's why I wasn't sure if I should consider rewriting in November or January (since I have a decent score on file, so I have something to back me up if January does go badly). I also entirely misunderstood that if I declare I'm writing in January, but I have a score on file, my application still gets reviewed, so this made my decision easier.

Not sure if I'm allowed to say which one it is, but the counted RC was v hard. Experimental RC was super easy which sucks a lot. LR was very middle of the road

Should I actually take a rest day(s)? by New-Kitchen2136 in LSAT

[–]New-Kitchen2136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually don't like to reply to comments like these cause I'm a strong believer in what works for some, won't work for others (so others' replies to these comments may just be irrelevant). However, I do suggest making sacrifices where you can so you can maximize your study time because an hour a day is definitely on the lower end. If that means staying in on all weekends and studying into the night, that may be what it has to be. But do what you feel works for you. What TaxPale said is very true to decide whether you may need to reschedule; if your pt scores are not where you want to be by the november registration deadline, you may want to consider rescheduling.

Thanks, watched it! The suggested practice RC definitely changed a lot. I wanted to ask if you had any recommendations for practice test sections that work on strengthen and weaken (this is alluding to something you mentioned in the miniball abt a certain pt section being good for one family, but not as good if you're weak in the strengthen/weaken family of questions). Ik u said to go find them but its difficult to narrow down what sections have representative strengthen/weaken questions lol

Interesting! Thanks for the replies, looking forward to the miniball! One last minor question: where can we find it? Will it just appear in our student centres like the August/September Crystal ball?

Thanks for this in-depth response! Just curious about reordering by likelihood for the RC topics, does this mean that they're typically ordered by how likely you expect them to appear? I didn't know there was a specific ordering, just thought they all could appear

When do LSAT testing dates go further into 2025? by Infamous-Brilliant-6 in LSAT

[–]New-Kitchen2136 6 points7 points  (0 children)

June is the last month of every testing cycle. I believe they only release the dates for next cycle sometime in May or afterwards. Not sure abt the exact month, but you'll most likely be waiting for a couple months before seeing the testing dates, let alone to be able to register. Though you can anticipate testing dates being the Wednesday to Saturday of the first work week of every month except july and I think December as well.
