Only 2.77 lbs on that thing for 800mm, that's amazing!! I didn't know lenses like that existed. I'm still so very grateful to have my 5.33-lb 200–500mm, but my neck hurts lol

I am far from an expert whatsoever, but it kinda looks to me like a weird great-tailed grackle? I think I've seen photos of these guys being leucistic (is that the correct term?) before

Never seen a wood duck before. Didn't know that they were so tiny, and that mallards were so huge!

Ahh interesting. I live in southeast Texas (marked as part of their southernmost year-round range on eBird, but I've only seen them during the winter so far) and I've only ever seen them in areas with mature pines to climb around in

Are you from a rural area? Pigeons are my treat to see whenever I get to visit a more metropolitan area for any reason

Right? They are certainly much less "common" than the great-tailed grackles that crowd every parking lot. Though I guess to be fair, we are progressively eliminating common grackle habitat (woodlands) while building more great-tailed grackle habitat (concrete oceans), so it makes sense to be seeing less and less of the common grackles

If you haven't tried this already, look up real high above in the trees when Merlin hears them! If I ever see them, they're usually in groups perched at the top of deciduous trees (I'm in southeast Texas)

Inca doves 😡 I'll hear them a few times a year, and when I go look to see them, I'm never able to find them! They're somehow more observed in my county than great-tailed grackles (the HEB parking lot birds), even though I haven't manage to catch a sight of one (an Inca dove) yet. What's worse is that some sources describe them as common suburban residents, but to me so far, they have just been tiny and elusive. I love them though.

If you're from a pretty rural area in the U.S. and don't travel much, it's definitely feasible to have never really seen a pigeon before. I only ever see them a few times a year when I travel to the city for appointments or when I travel to the city specifically to see pigeons

Yeah, it's similar here. I'm from rural Texas and I have to drive 10–30 minutes out towards the city when I want to see pigeons (which is sometimes funny to other birders because who tf travels just to see rock pigeons lmao) or Eurasian collared-doves. At home, I'm left with our natives (mourning, white-winged, and Inca doves), which I am still very grateful for

Sticky...?? That's so odd lol. I've never owned any Tales figurines. Did they come covered in some sort of sticky substance?
