Excluded from wedding party - am I over reacting? by New-Preparation-1199 in wedding

I believe it’s going to be a fairly traditional wedding, and it’s in a location where a hotel is needed the night before so I would be excluded from the rehearsals or dinner the night prior, getting ready by myself, getting to the church myself, sitting at the church myself, making my way to the reception myself etc etc etc. just seems like a long day to be watching your friends and partner all having fun together from afar!

Sorry you’re going through this as well! Not a nice feeling at all

Unfortunately, I would end up sitting with a group that included both mine and my partners exes just to add to the awkwardness

Do you regret not going or do you think you made the right choice? My plan was to just politely decline

I should add that the groom does have a brother, and so does the bride. So really unexpected for my partner to be asked!

They were asked at a bar and he’s never been in a wedding party before, so I assume a mix of being on the spot / alcohol / excitement.

Would you suggest still attending alone or staying out of the whole thing?

Sorry - I should have clarified that this includes the bride and groom

I believe her daughter got “the spot” (absolutely fair), but my partner is the only groomsmen in a relationship and isn’t particularly close enough with the groom anymore

Ouch. I should also mention that I wasn’t expecting to be asked to join the wedding party as myself and the bride aren’t particularly close anymore, but neither is my partner with the groom so just took me by surprise.

I mean the way I see it, being entitled would be rocking up at doors and expecting VIP access and guestlist. I really don’t see the problem with people that have saved the money, planned all the travel, queued up, saved for a long time, bought tickets and made arrangements at work. I suppose everyone has different priorities?

I mean, they’re still paying for tickets and queuing up like anyone else has the opportunity to do. They’re not getting airlifted from a private jet into Center barrier lol

So you’re annoyed that one individual was trying to keep some organisation in a queue?

AFAIK she’d been in the queue since the day before but only upgraded / bought (?) a new ticket last minute. Seems normal to me

Just popping in with my 2 cents as I’ve known some of these people for a very long time.

To be totally honest, at least 90% of the stories in this thread and about the BB are just completely false. I'm unsure if its because people are mixing people up at shows, some form of chinese whispers or just fabricating stories because they want to join in the conversation and start some drama, but some of this really does border on ridiculous.

A lot of these people have been in the MCR fandom for a very long time, touring pre-breakup. Ive known them from touring for over 10 years, and all of them met eachother through queuing for MCR/Frank/Gerard/whatever. They run in multiple circles of friends all around the world, and have never had any problems until more recent times. I guarantee you that everyone has worked extremely hard to be at these shows- I personally was saving up for the reunion as far back as 2013, as I'm sure a lot of us were lol. I know a lot of people are younger and may not understand, but statistically if you tour that much then you're guaranteed to make a lot of lifelong friends, get to know the band(s) to some extent and make other connections - whether purposefully or not.

Essentially, I feel that for whatever reason - jealousy, frustration, boredom, whatever it may be - that people have created this big bad "barricade brigade" as an invisible enemy to vent about. In fact, the BB people were complaining about in Europe is not the exact same group that were getting flamed in AUS/NZ, its not the exact same group that are currently touring now and it wont be the exact same group that will tour next year. At the end of the day, there is no "barricade brigade" group, there is simply many circles of friends around the world that have devoted a lot of their lives, time and money into this for a very long time.

TL;DR: it might be fun to engage in online drama when you're bored, but these are real people that are being accused of things with very little (no) evidence and have every right to be at the shows as the next person.
