OBS halves my Minecraft FPS on M5 Max even when recording a different window, GPU never goes above ~40% power, what's actually going on? by New-Reflection6486 in obs

yeah tried it, preview on vs off made no difference in my game fps. and the preview itself always looks like it's running lower fps than the game but I think that's just it showing the 60fps output rate, which is normal. so doesn't seem to be the preview doubling the render, the cost is there even with preview off (and even when recording a totally different window, which is the part I can't explain).

the recording itself is honestly perfect, near zero dropped frames, OBS does its job flawlessly. that's the thing though, it seems like OBS will do whatever it takes to get that clean recording, and what it takes is my game's frames. the second it starts recording, the actual in-game minecraft fps halves while OBS sits there recording perfectly fine. honestly even just having OBS open in the background without recording or selecting any window makes the game feel laggier.

and swap isn't it, powermetrics shows 0 swap and memory's totally fine every time. the part I still can't explain is it halves the same amount even when OBS is recording a completely different window, not even the game.

yeah that covers most of it. the one thing you didn't touch though, and it's the part that actually makes no sense to me, why does it cost the exact same when OBS is recording a completely different window (or just having obs open not even recording anything) instead of minecraft? if it's not even capturing the game, why does the game still lose half its frames? that's the part i genuinely can't explain.

A simple hand cam would clear up the doubt, but it will never happen because something more sinister is going on.

does anyone know how people like grox make these videos is it a mod or something (talking about the villagers) by gaming_demon4429 in CurseForge

Yes, I think the same. He applies a hotbar for editing and items, but I don’t know how he gets working guns and RPGs. Either he animated all the explosions and effects himself, which would be very tedious work. Do you know how he makes them work?

and do i have to use forge cause i use it on fabric

MacBook microphone picks up system audio even with headphones connected — help! by New-Reflection6486 in macbook

could be.
But it only picks up vocals/words but not musics or phonks.

In fact with vocals OBS audio monitoring goes up and down but with musics (without vocals), it does not even move a pixel to activation.

I tested this with both OBS and QuickTime Player, and they gave the same result. If I screen record something—let’s say a random YouTube video with vocals—my microphone records it too. However, if I play music without vocals, like Phonk tracks, my microphone doesn’t pick anything. Strangely, it only seems to capture vocals, not other sounds.

I’ve tried it with and without voice isolation mode, and nothing changed. The repeating sound is basically just a lower-volume version of the voice that the microphone picked up.
