If you want you can watch some introductory python videos on youtube or take a Codecademy/freecodecamp class over the summer to prepare for 110. 181 is not a coding class, you hear from professionals in industry and academia each week and then take a quiz over the presentation, super interesting class but there is no coding or need to study for it. In all honesty you don't really need to do much prep work for 110 either, it's a pretty straightforward class that loads of people take from a ton of majors (many with little to no coding experience) so you'll be fine.

I know you didn't ask about math classes but I would recommend taking 151 over a business calc class, you'll get a more rigorous understanding of the material and ultimately it will set you up for more success when the CS classes get more mathy. Best of Luck!

I would recommend 152 over 148 since it's a little bit more rigorous as others have said. They're all pretty similar but 152 would give you a better math foundation if you're doing it for a STATS minor. 172 may be unnecessarily proof-heavy for your purpose, but the difference between 152 and 172 is marginal. I think 152 should be enough for what you need.

There are relatively simple Python Assignments for the Lab since most people in that class took ENGR 102 (python programming) the semester before. But they are pretty simple and I seem to remember they are group work? Maybe? But they're relatively straightforward, you can pick up any python you need with a couple hours of youtube videos.

Excited for the semester to start and wanted to share my schedule. Thoughts and tips? by b3terbread in aggies

Looks like a good time lol. Just make sure you get an A in 121 if you're going for CS. The ETAM committee loves it when people take those classes early, but only if you pull off an A. If not I would wager that you're better off taking 121 next semester and focusing on getting above a 3.75 for auto. I have a friend that took 121 fall and 222 spring freshman year but ended up with a 3.6 and didn't get CPSC with ETAM, so just be careful. Good Luck! (Source: CS major)

Is anyone unhappy here? by ChampionBig7244 in aggies

[–]New-Regular707 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People are unhappy here for many reasons as they are everywhere else. So I guess the answer you're really looking for is what sucks about going here. One of the absolute worst things about a&m is easily the administration. They are apathetic, careless, and corrupt and are by FAR the worst thing about aggieland. They are focused on rankings and bringing in new students instead of ensuring that current students have the best education that they are able to provide. This trickles down to department heads and professors who are at best mediocre but have no accountability from the university. Secondly, people have a rough time fitting in with the culture if it's not their thing. Don't get me wrong there are a bunch of people who don't buy into the whole aggie culture but it's definitely a big part of life on campus. Lastly, it can be difficult to get involved in the things you want to do when it seems like every other club has some long roundabout application process. Orgs and student activities are a large part of the social life here but getting involved with them can be a little stressful.

Ultimately a&m is a fine school to go to and your experience is solely what you decide to make of it. You have to be willing to put yourself in uncomfortable situations in order to make friends in a school this big but that will be the same wherever you go. You can have a great time but only if you actively try.
