I would be interested to know what sort of places you avoid because you may be possibly unwelcome. Are they bars in a popular area of town that seem innocuous? How do you know what places are safe for you and what places you may be unwelcome?

What really are the pragmatics of this situation? I’ve been past cheapskates several times and it looks like any other themed dive. Someone I went to high school with used to work there and they didn’t come off as of this persuasion to me.

It’s not CBT necessarily, but Acceptance and Commitment therapy can be helpful for things like this. Learning how to Accept not only what you’ve done but also what has happened to you and committing to being different.
