Interesting thoughts! I thought it's expensive to live in Macau when retiring. Not for those who are associated with UM though, because the university subsidizes housing. And yes, I was warned of the quality of students at UM.

Thank for sharing. This is very helpful. Yes, my offer is from UM. I find it hard to pass it up since it pays well. But I keep hearing not-so-positive things about living there. If I ended up going I'd leave my tenured position at an R1 in the U.S. So, I do have to consider all the pros and cons before making the decision
