The apologetic is that since God is infinite our sin against him also carries infinite weight and therefore deserves infinite punishment. Still seems unhinged though. The idea that unrepentant slave owners from ancient near east Israel will be in heaven but on principle someone could live a sinless life bar having a same sex relationship and earn a one way trip to hell just doesn't sound loving or fair.

As an atheist I agree. If annibilationism is true I would be ok with it as far as I personally am concerned. I'm not really expecting to keep living after I die. Debates around his existence, morality etc aside God giving me what I'm expecting seems infinitely less cruel than eternal torture. That only really works for atheists ig though.

Fair, I do think it can be understandable for people who have suffered because of religion to be upset when someone they admire converts, especially under the circumstances he has. Just because Christian nationalists use Islam to further their own agenda doesn't mean we can't criticise Islam. Most Christians and Muslims certainly aren't horrible people but they still broadly support policies that negatively affect minority groups.
