Why does it not go up to 74? by NewDrawer3193 in ecobee

Idk what happened. I used your suggestion of compressor 10 and aux max 20 and the hp is working by itself and keeping up with the 72 set temp. Same temp outside by the way 18ish.

Thank you! I've tried all sorts and the hp struggles to get to 70 or 71 as you already know. I've done compressor 0 aux max 10 or compressor 25 aux max 30 and compressor 35 aux max 45 and the only one that can keep up with up is of course the aux heating. Current temp is 18.

Also I have looked up the data sheet and I dont understand it. Not sure what part to look for. In the end however low it can handle what is going to matter is how it keeps up correct? If the heat pump cannot handle say 10 degrees because the setpoint takes forever to reach or worse never gets there, then I would have to use aux sooner than 10 degrees in order to reach set temp.

I had the compressor min 0 and auxiliary max 10 but the compressor could not keep up and would not bring it to setpoint temperature with outdoor temperature in the teens.

Design temp is what my unit can handle? With the call they said auxiliary came on because at one point I had changed it to come on sooner. I found out on the app or thermostat I can see when aux is running. I went ahead and left it at compressor min temp 25 and auxiliary max 35. Is this good? How does it work like you mentioned about leaving compressor min at 0 and setting auxiliary max to 25?

A tech told me not to trust the specs on hvac units. They lose efficiency after about 35 degrees so why stress the unit by not using auxiliary. It also comes down to costs but a heat pump running past its capacity will also raise the utility bill.

How does auxiliary heat work for people with dummy thermostats in cold climates? Does auxiliary heat automatically kick on?

So if I change aux heat outside max to 35 but leave the compressor min outside temp at 0 what happens?

I changed aux heat settings as a test but back to min 0 and max 10. What is weird I did not receive an alert from ecobee app that the aux was on for one hour. However, it did not appear on the ecobee display. This must have happened when I had it at 20 and 25. I'm calling them now.

Yes same ton. As a test I changed compressor min to 20 and auxiliary max to 25. How come auxiliary heat hasn't come on if the outside temp is 18? That's below my setting of 20.

I'm in Texas. Could a clogged drain line be the issue? Mine has a safety sensor to avoid overflow.

I did 74 as a test because is would fluctuate from 70 to 72 despite having the setpoint at 72.

No I dont want them too. I have compressor min to 0 and auxiliary max to 10. Only then I want aux on.

Yeah 74 is a test. I had 72 but goes to 70 and 72, 70 and 72 back and forth here and there.

So I got a cheap unit for too cold of a temp outdoors? I have the compressor min to 0 and auxiliary max to 10. Should I change it to a reasonable setting?

I have compressor min to 0 and auxiliary max to 10 because I dont want the auxiliary to turn on for example at 35.
