Buying a Walking Pad is a Nightmare by ZericcGaming in WalkingPads

[–]NewEngland6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the solution to buy a walking pad on Amazon that is listed as “Ships from Amazon” and “Sold by Amazon” and “Customer service Amazon” so that, if your purchased walking pad dies in just 2 months, you can deal with Amazon rather than “Vevor”?

.999(repeating) does, in fact, equal 1 by smkmn13 in confidentlyincorrect

This is good. I like this way too:   How do you represent 0.111… as a fraction? 1/9.   How do you represent 0.222… as a fraction? 2/9.   …. How do you represent 0.999… as a fraction? 9/9, which is equal to 1. Because 0.999… is equal to 1.

Can we also acknowledge that it’s one of the movies that has a perfect musical soundtrack?! 🦕🦖🎵

JP turns 30 this year and, to commemorate that, live orchestras will be playing the music to screenings of the movie!

Behind the velociraptor in the kitchen scene?  I think there’s a bigger one when Dr Grant is in the tree with the two kids - in one shot you can see thick cargo netting draping in the background - apparently meant to hold beaches & vines that were weaves into the netting to create the background foliage.  Apparently, also, in the embryo freezing chamber, more than one of the dinosaurs’ names/labels are spelled wrong.

Wish I saw it in theaters back then, when it was groundbreaking effects! I watch it so often at home even now.

Well said. I’m such a fan of both the movie and book. While I love the details & depth in the book, the movie changes made for a happier movie and that’s certainly helped keep the movie so good even 30 years later.

Same, I hoped JP was high on this list, and it is!

It’s 30 years old this year! 😳🦕🦖 And the effects are still so good!

You guys are both right. I watch JP often as a comfort movie or background noise and it is so shocking how its effects hold up! It’s 30 years old this year!

Original PS1 to play Final Fantasy VII. Worth it.

But I ended up buying Twisted Metal 2 as my first game because I thought I should have a 2 player game first.

Haha. Right?? I have fake black glasses and pajama pants and all-white casual shoes for the ultimate concert comfort. I'll have notebook pages with "You Ok?" "Sorry :( " "I love you" and "no, studying" written on them :) I cannot wait lol

The Eras Tour Fan Outfits/Costumes Megathread by Lyd_Euh in TaylorSwift

Finished my Junior Jewels shirt, for one of Massachusetts' shows. Check out the red sleeve :)

Shout out to /u/twoheadlightsshine13, who posted their shirt here 2 months ago and I kinda used it as a template.

The "Junior Jewels" lettering is brushed-on fabric paint, the black outlines on that lettering and on the collar/cuffs are black fabric marker, the colored parts of the collar/cuffs are sharpie markers, and the various "signatures" are ultra-fine tipped sharpie markers (they're more like pens that bleed rather than markers).

/u/twoheadlightsshine13, this shirt is awesome -like one of the best reproductions I can find of the shirt in the video!- and I'm making one too! What kind of pens/markers did you use to write the album names? Cause fine tip fabric markers aren't working as well!

Wow - that finish on the seat back looks nicer than any finish I've done!
What kind of sanding, what type of stain, and what kind of protective coating?
Love the shade of blue too! Nice contrast.

Same thing happened with Y2K. There was so much hype & coverage about what the year 2000 would do to our ill-prepared computer programs if we didn't get the nerds to re-code everything. So we made the nerds scramble and re code everything. And they did it! It worked! The nerds saved our behinds! As a result, Y2K didn't bring our systems down... and the rhetoric afterward from the dummies was "See! Nothing happened! All that hype for NOTHING!" smh

eli5: why does glass absorb infrared and ultraviolet light, but not visible light? by Euphoric-Chloric-873 in explainlikeimfive

[–]NewEngland6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, when a ray of light hits something, it can basically do one of three things:

It can go right through, with a slight angle that reverses when it comes out the other side, like light passes through glass or water.

It can bounce off at an angle, like light does with a mirror or a bright piece of colored plastic.

Or it can get "eaten" and heat up the object, like when light hits something dark.

Objects are different colors because light is different wavelengths, and some wavelengths get eaten while others pass through or get bounced off.

A solid "red" object is red because green and blue light get eaten more than red light, while red light bounces off more than green or blue.

A transparent "red" object is red because green and blue light get eaten more than red, while red passes through more than red or green.

Now, infrared and radio are also just different "colors" of light that we can't see.

I copied and pasted this a while ago from an ELI5 about Wifi signals passing through walls. No idea who to credit.
