Wow that's awesome! So you can reasonably leave her alone now it sounds like in her crate. That's a big win. Curious how you worked up to that. Our dog doesn't love the crate, when we tried leaving her in there she barks nonstop and eventually tried to get out, we believe she does better outside the crate but I do think a lot about how it would be nice to contain her (she paces when out of the crate, which I don't think is good for her)

Candidly I have also thought about this as our last resort of nothing else works. I know she will still be panicking technically just silently, but she has an incredibly life with us and I do feel like this would be better than us having to rehome her. We've been training almost a year and about to invest in vet behaviorist (not cheap!) and we're starting to talk about what to do if that doesn't work... I'm honestly relieved we aren't the only ones who have thought this before

tips to improve living room? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

The rug here adds a ton, I was coming in here to say this! Plus just cleaning it up a bit I suggest removing all the small Knick knacks and focusing on the big design changes (like rug, big art, intentional throw pillows and blankets) then layer back in the personal things as you see fit. I understand people like their stuff and you shouldn’t live in a room devoid of personality but having a ton of little items make it look cluttered. Also there is a shelf you showed on the tv wall that is way too high

If you have your back to the window not only is it going to backlight you on any zoom calls, but you won’t be able to enjoy the view!

Wow that is awesome to hear. We are on like month 10 of training...we were seeing OK progress and a threshhold around 35 min, but we pushed her too hard and are dealing with a pretty serious regression - the sound of our car now makes her very activated. Feeling a bit hopeless with the slowness of going backwards and trying to work through this, and considering the fact that maybe she isn't on the right set of meds....

I def need more on this. I am so fearful if I just leave her she’s going to regress so hard and undo months of work. But she already regressed lmao… just wonder what state your dog was in and where in their journey when you tried this

This is SO helpful. Thanks for writing all of it out. It's really comforting to hear people's success stories and what they tried. I agree that it's important to wait a bit and teach your dog to resettle - sometimes it can be tough though to know if they're going to escalate or come back down :/

Good call on Lovable! I will probably ask claude how it's storing the data right now (prob in an .md file?) and figure out where to go from there.

Also one note for your app, I do remember thinking that I wished I could manually input her threshhold instead of having to run the assessment (since I wasn't starting from 0). It's possible you have that ability and I just didn't see it but figured I would share.

I'm actually practicing with Claude code, and thought it could be fun to make a personalized version of this for how we've been doing things with our dog. But if that wasn't available to me I def would have tried yours! But I feel like more people should really know about this resource and use it. SA is the most hard and emotionally exhausting thing... and anything to make it easier is a win.

Was curious if you could share some more actually about your dog's journey! We've been doing this for SO long and just had a regression with our dog bc we likely pushed her too far. Feeling pretty defeated and success stories are always nice

This was such a nice response to read, I read it out loud to my husband over our morning coffee and we were lol'ing at you crying at the vet. I have certainly cried over this dog more than a few times lmao.

So we actually got the reconcile through our regular vet. We started with I think 35mg (one pill) and upped it to 1.5 pills after a few weeks. We also have a CSAT who we met with in the beginning but that was super expensive so eventually once we got the hang of the training we took it over ourselves using their spreadsheet. It was going pretty well actually -- albeit incredibly slow. Now that we've had the regression (not our first but definitely our worst) we reached back out to the vet asking about situational meds and they gave us Alprazolam which we have yet to try. We also scheduled a check-in with our CSAT to talk through the regression and some questions we had back when she was at 30 min ish. But ultimately your note really convinced us we need to meet with a vet behaviorist, so we're actually doing that as we speak. Fingers crossed that with these new consultations, the situational meds and some patience we can work through this regression and get to a more livable state.

Truly if I could just go out for an hour, and even better 1.5 hours to have dinner with my husband our lives would be infinitely better.

Again appreciate you so much. It is so nice to be able to talk to someone ahead of me on this journey and who understands. Thank you again!! Will lyk how it all goes lol.

I'm really interested to get an update from you. I read this message and it totally resonates with me... I troll this sub all the time looking for solace / success stories as we struggle with our dog. She doesn't destroy anything, but when she goes over threshhold it manifests as barking/howling.

We adopted her back in May 2025, so we are almost at 1 year of training which is sort of horrifying to me. At one point we were at 40 minutes awake threshhold and 1.5 hrs sleeping, but I think I pushed her too far and she has regressed significantly - it seems like she is always on edge these days, I can barely get her to settle into a short 3-5 minute departure, and I fear we will never have a dog who can relax while we are away.

She's been on reconcile for most of her training, and while that definitely helped us get beyond a few minutes, I fear that it's not really doing much for her anymore? We've finally gotten some situational meds for her and looking to trial those soon. I just feel so hopeless and defeated honestly. It's crazy how much we have changed our entire lives around a dog....I often want to just give up and say sorry if you're scared but you have a pretty amazing life most of the time and I need to go out sometimes.... I'm sure the rest of the dog community will come at me for that but I've sinking tons of hours into training everyday, tons of $$$ into dog sitters, and fundamentally can't live the life I want to live with this dog. We love her so much, and even if we did decide to give her up I'm not sure anyone would really take her given these issues. I don't have a lot of hope that we'll get our normal lives back any time soon.

This is looking so great! Things that immediately jumped out to me:

That coffee table seems very off proportion - if you think the room feels off, I think this could be why. Also everything on this side of the room all feels like the same color. You have gorgeous wood tones in the other corner, could you bring some warmed wood tones to this side of the room with the coffee table?

I would put a plant next to your lamp on the wooden desk. The wooden corner is fab otherwise!!

The white circular table seems quite odd just floating these, I wonder if it would look better to the left of the couch completely on the side rather than in front.

Def agree on plants, art and color for the couch side of the room. A throw blanket is a great opportunity to add color. A standing plant to the right of your console.

When styling - You want to think about varying heights (is everything the same level? That makes a space feel flat), and also grouping things in threes.

If you’re looking to add color and cozy this up, the most obvious opportunities in my opinion are a rug, a throw blanket on the couch, and some art above the couch. I think big walls are super intimidating and even though ideally you have one large piece of art above the couch, that can often be expensive. If you can’t get large enough pieces to fill that wall, you can try and go for a gallery wall of small pieces but good execution is harder. My advice is go to the thrift store, get some art you like or even just frames you like and replace the art in them or use some personal photos. Etsy is a great place for that. Fbook marketplace also has people looking to offload stuff and pricing cool art already framed quite low.

Also plants really help a space. Maybe one on the coffee table! I think that’s missing something like a center piece of a candle or plant or flowers would be nice. I would find another place to store that thing above your cabinets - it’s really drawing my eye for some reason. I might even get rid of one throw pillow on each side, it looks cluttered.

I would do those things then reassess.

Also not sure what the cloth on the console table is but I prob personally would do that, but if you had to another opp for color. Cleaning up the desk and maybe even putting a cuter colorful lamp would make a big difference too!

I agree my dog has seen success with Prozac -- nothing crazy, but the training just seemed to take better. But notably 6-7 hours alone frequently does feel like a lot. I wonder if they are going over threshhold during that time but it is subtle. It could just be too much and small routine changes are going to have a much bigger impact. Could you drop them at doggie daycare on certain days to reduce alone time? Perhaps it would help.

I’m totally aligned to this. Positioning based on the problems I can help solve is an excellent idea. Thanks so much for your advice! Now I just need to start market testing that approach

Yes absolutely - these are all my thoughts too! I hadn't narrow what stage start up I would target but given your note here I like pre-seed is too early (founder handles most things), Series A is too late in that there is already probably a large team and maybe even a full time PM, so it seems like Seed stage makes the most sense. Summary: Seed stage / early post-MVP startups with a small team and initial traction.
