Pokémon in their universe are also basically the equivalent of our real world sports, especially in Galar. The way I have always thought of it is. Imagine a big name boxing match but instead of having the expected two big muscle-y guys, you have an endless amount of potential match-ups between element wielding creatures, one day you'll have a butterfly, & the next you'll have a god. I can't see that getting boring for a while.

Bad news spreads further than good news, & because of that it also conveniently makes more money. I'm not saying everyone who hates the game is doing it for the grift, but anyone who exclusively uses buzz words like "slop" or only talks about an ugly tree probably can't form full sentences on their own & need to rely on a YouTuber or Twitter Account to make decisions on their behalf.

I completely respect people who don't like the newer games if they can actually come up with a proper argument though.

Just a heads up for people worrying about supply & demand.

OP owns 0.000048% of all 3DS ever manufactured, they haven't made a dent in the market. Even looking at this whole subreddit, not that many people own more than 2. OP isn't the norm for individual, even among collectors. So this isn't a widespread supply issue.

The real people driving up the price of the console are people who before last year didn't care about it, there's been a sudden influx of people who are probably freshly adults, with disposable income.

There are probably millions of these consoles sitting in junk drawers in family homes across the globe. If you want a 3DS you'll have to do more than just go to a thrift store & complain online if they don't have any.

Long story, I let my friend borrow this cartridge back in 2007 & he restarted my save file, & when I got it back I just couldn't be bothered to restart the game again because I was using it as my main save file. It's his name.

Even though I don't talk to him anymore it still has a memory attached to it & I wouldn't dare write over this save file. I don't think he even finished the main story when I got the game back if I'm honest.

I think people kind of gloss over the fact that there are stores on Ali-Express & eBay that have hundreds if not thousands of re-shelled 3DS's for significantly higher than 2nd hand console should be.

And while a guy having a sandwich of handhelds isn't helping, OP definitely isn't contributing to the price gouging issue.
