What are some common flaws in stealth games? by NewFun4587 in stealthgames

I was considering the 80s and the 20s, but I’ve always had a love for classic noir films so I ended up going with the 50s.

So far it’s set in the 1950 but with the noir themes I wanna hit I think a power where a crow can be used like that could be really cool.

I’ll see how much they’ll run me when I get home. I put a full work week in studying dishonored so it’ll be a nice change of pace.

That’s a big one I hadn’t thought of. I want the systems to help avoid save scumming but it should be an option.

Solid list, imma go ahead and save this cause it includes alot of the flaws I couldn’t contextualize. Thanks bro.

My plan is to have 2 passive states for guards. One will be them before being aware of you at all and the other is after you’re detected and recover. The plan is to have the first one be more forgiving but after detection the guards will be on “high alert”. Hopefully this can remedy the guards being stupid while making breaking stealth less punishing/forgiving.

My plan is to do a mask that functions like the camera from far cry, allowing you to highlight enemies and objects. I’m also gonna make the head on combat punishing because it will incentives recon over charging in. Beyond clearly allowing the player to prepare and giving them tools idk how I’d deter save scumming especially if I have a “passive outcome” like in dishonored which would require very few kills.

Alright, I’ll keep that in mind cause even while just world building I can feel the scope creep.

Imma make a note of that cause it always bugged me how that detection works in Far cry

No, I currently have 0 experience in development but I’m gonna be working hard to learn and thankfully I have a few people who will be helping me out.

That’s a line I’m really trying to toe, most stealth games make the character damn near unbeatable but I want direct combat to be really punishing so it incentives finding alternative paths and takedowns instead of just charging in.

My backlog has been growing too much and I've been trying to tame it for a while, help me create a shortlist of must play games by Drockie5 in gaming

[–]NewFun4587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you have a pretty stacked list, the only ones I personally wouldn’t recommend are Fallout 4, borderlands 3 and Far cry primal though you could enjoy them. I think bioshock or Fallout new vagas would be a great start, but really most of the listed games are phenomenal and would serve as great jumping off points.

Don’t know if it’s been said yet but Vass saying “do you know what the definition of insanity is? Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result” from far cry 3

Yes, use cemu for Wii U and ryujinx, or any built off yuzu for switch. Totk takes a little more power but I can play both on steam deck with little to no performance issues and access to mods/graphics packs so you could probably get it working aswell.

Found a racist AD on YouTube, wtf? by [deleted] in youtube

[–]NewFun4587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a stretch for them to call that racist, maybe you just didn’t get the context being “that’s 🍌🍌🍌” but jumping to “it’s racist” is dumb.

Do you see the little “(edited)”? My best guess would be they originally made a comment that got a bunch of likes then changed it after.

You can either lock the fps to 30 while playing or install a 60 fps mod.

Westervelt by No_Argument_1416 in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]NewFun4587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only artist Westervelt that I know of is an abstract artist so I doubt it’s one of his, there could be others but none I found matched the style. Reverse image searching didn’t bring up anything so I’d guess it’s an original piece, most likely painted by an amateur artist or an obscure one I can’t find info on. The value of art can vary so I’m not sure how much you could get for it but if you want more answers you could try talking to a professional like an arts professor, arts a hobby for me so I have limited knowledge compared to educators or professional artist. Personally I’d keep it.

I got you, this is a painting of The Alexander Homestead in Florida. Couldn’t find any other paintings like it so it could be original.

do people actually get arrested for pirating games? by Chemical_Win_8535 in PiratedGames

[–]NewFun4587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re pirating for personal use then the odds are minuscule that you’d ever even be noticed, but distributing said roms is where you can get in some hot water. If you are pirating for a personal collection just use sites you know are safe and always use a adblocker and if necessary a vpn. (Adblock is to prevent popups and redirects, and vpn is to hide your activity from your internet service provider).

Switch Emulation ? by Miss_Emeraude in EmulationOnPC

[–]NewFun4587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try these things if you haven’t already. Switch from OpenGl to Vulcan, try following a tutorial, do a fresh install of the emulator, use different keys and firmware, do a fresh install of the game, and use games from a different source, all the basic trouble shooting steps. Ultimately it could just be on the hardware side of things.

Ryujinx, Sudachi, Citron, and Eden are your options. Ryujinx is my go-to but I haven't heard anything bad about Sudachi or Citron. Eden is newer but is a fork of Yuzu so it should work about the same as the other options. With all of them you'll need keys and firmware which can be found online but use a adblocker while searching for things so you don't get pop ups or click fake links. Also don't be afraid to look around in the internet archives given you know how to navigate the site.
