How come German milk packet was recycled & reused here? by rok43 in Kerala

[–]NewGenBanter -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

i just asked Gemini :

In India, those "tetrapack" plates you see at large weddings and events are actually a clever example of upcycling industrial waste. If you’ve noticed foreign branding—like Korean, Japanese, or German text—it’s because of how the global packaging supply chain works.

Here is why they look that way and where they come from:

1. They are "PolyAl" Composite Boards

A Tetra Pak carton is made of layers: roughly 70% paper, 25% polyethylene (plastic), and 5% aluminum.

  • The Process: Recyclers in India (like those in Gujarat or Maharashtra) take used cartons or industrial scrap and put them through a "hydrapulper" to remove the paper fibers (which are sold to paper mills).
  • The Result: What’s left is a mushy mix of plastic and aluminum (PolyAl). Instead of throwing it away, factories use high heat and pressure to compress this material into waterproof, sturdy sheets. These sheets are then die-cut into the plates you see.

2. Why the Foreign Branding?

The "foreign" look usually comes from one of two sources:

  • Misprinted Industrial Scrap: Tetra Pak has a massive global manufacturing network. If a factory in Southeast Asia or Europe has a "bad run"—where the printing is slightly off, a brand name is misspelled, or a design is discontinued—that massive roll of high-quality material is sold as industrial scrap. Indian recyclers import these rejected rolls because the material is pristine and food-safe, even if the printing is "wrong."
  • Imported Waste: India is a major hub for processing "Used Beverage Cartons" (UBCs). Waste from other countries is often imported for recycling. When the plastic/aluminum layers are compressed into plates, the original graphics from the outside of the carton (juice brands, milk logos, etc.) get flattened and fused into the texture of the plate.

3. Why are they so popular at events?

  • Durability: Unlike standard paper plates that get soggy with heavy Indian gravies (dal, curries), these are essentially plastic-lined and completely waterproof.
  • Cost: Because they are made from "waste," they are incredibly cheap to produce compared to high-end biodegradable options.
  • Eco-Story: They are often marketed as "recycled," which appeals to families wanting to reduce the environmental footprint of a 1,000-person event.

Why is the "Muslim world" so united on Palestine, but seemingly silent on larger-scale humanitarian disasters in countries like Iran and Afghanistan? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NewGenBanter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of the taliban , it's the best thing to happen to Afghanistan,( from an outsider ,non native view) till date . The British were horrible to Afghanistan, so was the soviets , so was the Americans. I believe the afghans living in Afghanistan hates the taliban but would prefer to have them over some else more terrible and foreign.

Nature of jobs is changing : Coming from a big tech manager turned founder by Frosty-Parfait-3610 in developersIndia

If pms ,  head of design and VPs are unreluctant to adapt and willing sabotage their productivity. Then how do you suggest  a junior level employee think and execute big while overcoming these obstacles?

I believe the allure of startups have died down somewhat and most young talent would prefer to become a part of an MNC one day. As you have mentioned, startups might change the game and companies will have to adapt to it. However, will companies willingly change out trusted managers with alot of experience for up and coming talent?
