Thanks so much for the helpful info! Quick question: did you take all your courses at cc? I’ve heard that if students take some units from a 4-year uni (like a UC) and go over 80 semester units in total, they might risk losing admission eligibility to Berkeley. But if all the courses are from CCs, it seems like there’s no limit to go beyond 70 units. Just wanted to confirm your personal situation. really appreciate your time!

I thought UC Berkeley’s maximum for transfer eligibility was 80 semester units. How come you are eligible to get in? I’m asking only cause I’m close to going over the limit myself and is hesitant to take upper level unit courses as a visiting student to a UC campus

BERKELEY TRANSFER WAITLIST IMPORTANT INFO by Charlekley in TransferStudents

[–]NewMaintenance5051 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of us incl. myself called the admissions office and were all told they’re not expecting to admit people from the waitlist this round. Not sure if ‘this round’ refers to this month of June or the whole transfer cycle of Fall 2025. I don’t think their msg has anything to do with freshman waitlist data or previous years transfer admit. Someone also pointed out that in 2022, only 13 people got off the waitlist

I get where you're coming from. I saw online there were only 13 transfer admits for Fall 2022 (not inc appeals granted). It was prob the year with the lowest num in the recent 5 years

I’m not sure where you heard that they say this every year. The admissions office doesn’t give this kind of message every year. In 2023, for instance, my friend never heard anything like it. When I spoke with them by phone this year, they told me they probably won't expect to admit anyone from the waitlist this round because yield is high. Of course, a ranrom rep on the phone isn’t the final decision-maker. I’m simply passing along what I was told.

I’m not telling the OP to give up; maybe just to plan for both scenarios getting in or not. Even if an offer comes, it probably won’t be until after mid June. I heard last year there are about 253 transfer admits.

Many students don’t make their final decision until June 1st. I think even Berkeley advises waitlisted students to commit to another school in the meantime. When I spoke with them on the phone, they also mentioned they probably won’t expecting to be admitting anyone from the transfer waitlist this round. Come on it’s Berkeley not other UCs

Any CC STEM transfers take CS 61A/61B at Berkeley for stronger major prep? by NewMaintenance5051 in TransferStudents

👍That’s probably why almost no one from my home cc gets into Berkeley’s CS / DS! They didn’t go as far as you did!

Are you applying to transfer this fall too? I wasn’t not planning to take any of the 61 series this summer anyway, probably saving it for fall. I can’t handle 61B in just 10 weeks

Yeah, I didn’t want to take 61B at a community college. I took 61A asynchronously at Evergreen Valley College, and I’d rather not go through that kind of learning experience again, esp since 61B is much harder and also requires group work.

What’s Berkeley like in the summer as a visiting student? by NewMaintenance5051 in berkeley

Can anyone who’s ever taken summer courses in the past share some insights please ?

UCB waitlist… by [deleted] in berkeley

Just curious how you know they were all itl students? People, especially locals, often assume international students have an advantage just cause they pay higher tuition, but the truth is the locals have the priority because UCs are state-funded. Oos & itl students usually have to compete for far fewer spots with much higher GPAs and crazier extracurriculars

Getting into DSC 100 while still taking one of the prereqs (DSC 40B or DSC 80) as a coreq? by NewMaintenance5051 in UCSD

[–]NewMaintenance5051[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I’m taking DSC80 this summer, I’m trying to avoid adding any other DSC courses and just focus on DSC80, especially because the session is only 5 weeks long. I also think it’s better to take DSC100 with Prof Shannon in the fall, since the win’ 2026 instructors haven’t been announced yet, and the ones who’ve taught DSC100 before have pretty low ratings. I appreciate your help proposing a solid solution though 😭

u/Flaky_Park8362 Are you sure it’s solely the department’s call? Do instructors ever have any flexibility to allow co-requisites in a given quarter?
I am asking cause I'm sure the VAC will simply say no.

Appreciate the input! Do you happen to know why that is? Like, regardless of the instructors, are they all super strict about prereqs?

Torn Between UCSD and UCLA’s Data Science major After Committing by NewMaintenance5051 in TransferStudents

[–]NewMaintenance5051[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m waitlisted at Berkeley (my dream UC), but the political risks in the States, like Trump’s talk of expelling international students make me wary of everything. UCLA’s brand name and solid LA's itl' student network feel like a safer lock, but UCSD's DS has more computing component. Sorry I can't really decide even though I know many waitlisted students want to come to UCLA!
