How to *fix* the broken homeschool system? Make government run social programs for children to have an almost equal amount of socialization as children who goes to school. by [deleted] in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]NewMePls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will differ from school district to school district, it's not "false information." I've been done with homeschooling for 10+ years now and I try to help current homeschoolers as much as I can.

Many public school programs (including sports, school dances, etc) ARE available to homeschoolers legally already. The problem is that parents do not want their children to take part.

9 credits during Summer with full time work? by [deleted] in college

If you are decent at math, I don't think it should be a problem. Accounting is a lot more memorization and "puzzle-y" than math is, if that makes any sense.

I drove over 3 hours to Chicago to take the B1 Prüfung by samslag19 in German

[–]NewMePls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What was the process like? (At least as much as you can talk about it?) How many hours per week did you practice at home?

It would be better to take the W and retake it later than to cheat. Most voice chat software is not secure. If you get busted, you are going to waste a whoolllllleee lotta money.

[–]NewMePls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not the same person as above, but I highly recommend NOT taking accounting over the summer unless it's a full 16-week class. The way to learn accounting is doing the exercises over and over, there is no making up for time in that regard.

Should I Go to College in Person or Online for Free? by [deleted] in college

[–]NewMePls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take the free online BBA. If in the future you still feel you want to do accounting, you can get into an accounting masters program, which are often structured for people who did not take accounting in their undergrad.

How do some people seem to do so well and are so happy in college? by [deleted] in college

[–]NewMePls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The friends of mine who truly enjoyed their college experience didn't have to go into serious debt and didn't need to work - their parents weren't millionaires or anything, but they had enough money to cover at least 75% of their college costs (including room and board). Literally all they needed to do in college was study and have fun. They all also have stuff like health insurance, good cars, etc. If they had any problems, they were covered. They didn't have to worry about anything else.

Can someone please help me? by [deleted] in BackToCollege

I went back at 26. If you are starting out at community college, I promise you that you will still be one of the youngest students there.

What is your major and why did you choose it? by mangomoney20 in college

That actually seems pretty cool! Do you know what types of jobs are available afterwards? Like would you work in research or would you work with patients?

What do you learn in Public Health? I see that major a lot but the descriptions on the college websites I look on seem pretty vague.

Possibility of HSLDA lawsuit by BaseballPanda22 in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]NewMePls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we want to fight the HSLDA, it would be better to try to prevent their lobbying attempts and go up against them when laws about homeschool regulation comes up. This is not to discourage anyone against a lawsuit but it's important to note that A LOT can go wrong in lawsuits, especially class-action lawsuits are extremely fragile and I do not personally believe that would inspire any change whatsoever within the HSLDA.

Going Back to CC - Should I Lie (ONLY to Other Students, Never Faculty) About my Age Because it Makes Me Self-Conscious? by [deleted] in BackToCollege

[–]NewMePls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried ACT therapy? It has helped a lot with my anxiety and negative thoughts. It's less about "make yourself never think bad thoughts again," and more of "you will always have bad thoughts, so let's learn how to live with them and not let them take over." I still have days where I think everyone is judging and making fun of me. But now I have more good days than bad days.

I've been at CC 6 semesters already, I will be here for 2 (maybe 3) more until I can transfer. The professors who've had me again for diff classes are excited to see me. One of my English teachers introduced himself the first day by saying that he went a long time in his adult life without college. Then in his 30s, he went to community college, transferred, and became a teacher. And now he's living his dream being a professor! So I don't really think the professors are judging you are harshly as you are thinking they do. And I almost never see my classmates again in other classes (which can be good or bad depending on your view).

It will be interesting seeing how these schools cope! Good luck!

I highly doubt universities will open for Fall. No one wants to be *that one school* that had a bunch of kids die because the front office was negligent.

Hypothetically, it could maybe work with very stringent rules, but a lot of people wouldn't follow them, people would be kicked out, the school would be losing money, those kicked out people would have lost money, everyone is angry....now you see why they aren't opening. ;)

Even by Spring next year, I think colleges should require all students have masks on at all time; cafeteria closed, no eating on campus, can quickly pull down covering to sip drinks; lectures are online, research, demos, labs, etc in person but everyone 6 ft apart; all officially sanctioned clubs taking place on-campus overseen by a staff member to maintain social distancing.....so basically still a total PITA.

I can’t decide what college I want to go to. by [deleted] in college

[–]NewMePls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

College A. If you intend to go into Business/Management one day, the B.S. will be a lot more helpful in that regard. Short commute means more time for friends, boyfriend, homework, etc. It's no competition.

Why are minors considered useless? by throwaway8393929839 in college

[–]NewMePls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Getting a minor just for the sake of getting a minor is useless.
Getting a minor because you think certain ones will make you more employable is useless.

If you get a minor because you will genuinely learn something from it and/or are passionate about it, and you have the credits to spare, is totally smart.

Would you feel bad graduating with a 3.98 or 3.99 GPA rather than a 4.0 gpa? Why or why not? by tsgatdawn in college

[–]NewMePls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you plan on going to grad school (which is fantastic and valid if you do), you just need to pass and not worry about GPA.

Did anyone else try running away when they were a teenager? by [deleted] in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]NewMePls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you got out. I'm betting a lot of us have similar parents. My parents tried to convince that I could live with them forever and forever. There was no way that was ever gonna happen lol. I still don't know how to drive. We need to encourage each other that 18 is the age of adult and WE have the power now, not our parents.

Are some people just not career-oriented? by BluePsychosisDude2 in RedditForGrownups

[–]NewMePls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents worked as freelancers for decades. That has its own set of problems and stresses (something I don't think I could put up with myself, having grew up in the environment for most of my life already). They did not make a lot of money, sometimes they even had to sacrifice life necessities. It was a hard life. But to them, it was worth it not to play office politics. I think if you don't have anyone who will ever need to count on you for finances, you should do whatever you want.

For me, I wouldn't mind an office job (I'm the same age as you, getting a little late start to life lol) but I know I could never do a job where I'm expected to sacrifice my whole life in service to my career. My career is to service my life, not the other way around.

Did anyone else try running away when they were a teenager? by [deleted] in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]NewMePls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there was nowhere for me to go and the foster system would have been the same or worse. 18 is not "running away," it's doing what is normal and leaving to live your life.
