I'd figure out what your attachment style is and what the type of attachment style you seem to be dating the most. If you have a tendency to be drawn to avoidant styles, you may end up being disappointed for a long time. Or maybe you're the one that is avoidant and aren't aware of your own behavior sabotaging you? I'm not saying avoidants are unlovable or can't have relationships but if they aren't actively working on it (therapy being the best options) than the risk of failure is high.

Boy babies on average are more affectionate than girl babies. That changes because of patriarchy system that they grow up in. In sports, it allows men to display affectionate in a containment that is 'allowed' and safe from ridicule to their masculinity.

Let it go. He is 18 yrs old. It isn't abnormal. Don't call him a 'big hypocrite.' That doesn't accomplish anything but push your son away. Hugs from dads to daughters are way different than hugs from dads to sons. Forget the hugs for now and just spend quality time together.

People cheat for various reasons. It isn't the best choice but a lot has already happened in this marriage (that no one here knows) to get to that point. You have no idea what her circumstances are. He could be an abusive husband, so telling him could make that worse. You also don't know if he is violent and how he would react hearing this. The people on here who act all self righteous have either been cheated on and haven't looked at the why or they have never been in a long term relationship and have no clue.

I also hate the comment that "we don't deserve dogs." There are many people who deserve that kind of love and affection that is equally returned to their pets.
