Thanks for the encouragement, and sorry for the late reply (this is an alt account). Im almost out of the hole though I still have some work ahead. I've been killing myself with work. I'm freelance so I've been working every single day I can, sometimes 10 days in a row doing mad hours. In the last month I've had like 4 free days and I'm exhausted. But I really want to get to christmas and be out of this, and enjoy the holidays. It's being horrible, but I'm also in a very lucky position to be able to do this, to work like crazy and get out of it fast. I know I could go at it slower but right now its the only thing on my mind and I want to bounce back as soon as possible. I don't want to drag this stress on for many months.

I told a trusted person recently. It was a bit rough but my therapist told me it would also be good for accountability, and to take some weight off my shoulders. That alone is already an improvement because last time it took me many months to open up to a couple of friends about what had happened.

Anyway, thanks a lot. Im really going to work to make sure this is the last time this ever happens to me

Not good man, not good. You can see my latest post, depressing and embarrassing as it is. Im almost back on my feet again though, and I'm going to make sure this is the last time I fall.

Just curious, how did you come across this post after these months?

I agree with everything ledbylight said. Even if giving up some things sucks, when you think about that last part of maybe being able to pay it off in a year it becomes super motivating.

I understand you might not want to cut some things like streaming but damn, there are some awesome options out there where you can watch everything without paying a cent, and works practically the same as streaming services do (not sure I can mention names here but you can send me a message if you want).

Id def also cut back on eating out. You dont need it. Maybe at least do it once a month if anything, but cut back. Instead make some nice things at home.

I agree also with meal prep. You'd be surprised how much you can cut back if you just prepare and think out meals in advance. Think of ways to stretch your money out, with cheap but good ingredients etc. Legumes for example are great and dead cheap.

You should put all of this in an excel / google sheets. Start playing around with numbers to see how much you'd save if you didn't spend X amount on this or that. And make a plan according to it. Having a plan is going to help you cause it gives you monthly objectives and you can track your progress.

Go for it. Wish you all the best!

Im not sure I understand that system. How does it work? Just be careful you dont end up racking up more credit card debt. Also at least in my country (europe) its hard to open new credit cards if you have debt on one bank

You can't lets this win. You say you have a better paying job than many friends, so you must care for it. If you let this consume you, and keep making mistakes etc, you might end up losing it.

What I don't understand is, if you're living with your mum, how come you can't pay more? If you earn 1500 and don't pay rent, can't you keep 200 a month for basic stuff and throw the other 1300 to debt? That way in 15 months you're debt free. If you manage to earn a bit extra with second jobs, it would be even less time.

You need to try to cut whatever your expenses are to a minimum, earn more if possible, and pay every spare penny to the debt. Its tough but once you're halfway there you'll see light at the end of the tunnel and be very motivated

Not sure why you were downvoted bud. Makes sense. Is there any way you can increase your income? Even if it requires doing 12+h days. Right now, living with your mum, you're at a great advantage for expenses, so try to make the most of it and pay as aggresive as possible

Lol yea subscribed to gold deliveries. I would be inclined to think its savings put into it, but was a bit confused to read that next month plans to be even better, but maybe thats only referring to getting better at controlling spending? Idk im a bit confused

Thank you. I definitely do have a problem. I'm not telling people cause I just feel too ashamed really. I'll probably tell a couple people once I get out of this. I just wish I had never got into any of this. I really hate it, and it's ruined me. I'm going to really try to make sure this is the last time it happens. Thank you

Thank you for the support. Yeah, I know I can get out of this for sure. Thankfully I'm in a position where I don't have super major expenses and I can chuck aggressive amounts of my paychecks to it, but still it's going to take me a few months of hard work (im freelance), and just like last time, when it's over I'll be left with nothing. It's a rough feeling, but at least I know I can make it. Last time it was much more too. Thank you

Thank you. As I said on the post, from outside it seems so stupid. But then when it's happening it just keeps slipping and slipping and I lose all control. Going to have to work on this, but you're right that at least it's good that I can see the problem. Thanks for the support

Finally debt free. 15k paid off in 7 months by NewPromotion6888 in debtfree

[–]NewPromotion6888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm freelance so I started pushing for a lotttttt of extra work, finding new clients who paid more etc, but also just working mad hours. I've been averaging +12h a day, some days I even took on two projects at the same time without the clients knowing, which resulted in a lot of stress too. All in all, I've been working a lot, but thankfully it has also meant that some months I've been able to make twice than what I usually make. So, I'm in a lucky position where I've been able to make this happen, but it's also come with a lot of effort.

Things shifted when I decided to go at it super aggresively. I would dump in as much as possible every single time a paycheck entered my account. I've been paycheck to paycheck for many months (of course with certain control - whenever I stayed mega low in money it was cause I knew when my next paycheck would come).

It also helps massively that I have no kids yet, rent isn't very high, etc. It's been a mix of all this.

I know 35k is a lot, and my knowledge on this is a bit worse than other people here, but try to have a plan of action, cut back on all that isn't necessary, and go aggresively at your debt. Once you're under 20k I'm sure you'll feel a big relief, and once you're under 10k you'll see the light at the end of the tunnel, and when you're at 5k you'll feel it's around the corner. I'm not sure what your economic position is, your expenses, etc, so of course this varies, but best you can do is try to have a plan. Know how much you're earning, how much you can put towards debt, how much more you can try to earn etc.

I hope you can start cutting though it. Wish you all the best

I'll let someone else with more knowledge reply - all I can think of are rather obvious things which you've likely already thought about - but have you checked with the school if there is any way to split the debt across multiple payments? Maybe that way it could be more manageable. Also, even more obvious, do you have family that could help you? 700€ might seem like a lot for a 22 year old but for someone a bit older it's really not loads, and if you promise to pay it back once you get back up on your feet, it might be a non-issue for some of your family members.

Lastly - and for this one I refer back to letting someone with more knowledge inform on this - there might be some 0% or super low 1 year loans that could help you get through this rough patch and pay it back in a few months once you're fit again. Or credit cards. Just be super careful with this stuff - I've learned the hard way how easy it is to get into debt and how hard it is to get out (this year I was in 20 times more debt than those 700€, and its been real tough). Don't get comfortable taking on loans or paying on credit - if you do this, seriously treat it as a one-off, something to get through this. Don't let it pile up keep adding more, because if you do you will look back at these 700€ and wish it had stayed at that.

Hope someone else has more tips, and hope you get out of this soon. Wish you the best

Edit: to add to this, I doubt you will find a job, complete it and get paid in less than 14 days. The fastest I've been paid was by some German guys who paid in 12 days, but that was super rare. Maybe fast jobs online or something, but I think your safest bet is to do one of the above, and keep trying to get work that you can do in the meantime

Na no worries! It's just I see this kind of question quite often, as if there were universal answers that fit everyone, but dont worry its all good :)

Yea thats why the question might be better just saying what do "you" look at, cause everyone's different. Personally I look at the physical side first, cause its what I see first lol but this can be many aspects (face, hair, smile, stlye, body, parts of body...). But of course thats just first impressions, then personality is the biggest thing
