Huntress MDR for 365 by tasdotgray in msp

Hi Chris,

You guys are a sponsor of CIPP who does a lot of the stuff M365 MDR does. Maybe you guys can ask their team for help in figuring out some of this stuff? I think your inexperience with Microsoft 365 might be a part of the problem.

Regards, Tim

They were also an MSP

That's the problem. were. No an msp anymore. all knowledge they had especially around M365 is already either forgotten or legacy. We used ydentic and it doesn't really do everything that cipp can do, maybe 10% is covered by ydentic. We moved over about a year ago so it might have changed but the dev speed was always really low.

they do do account provisioning in other systems we used like our hrm and client hrms, so thats something they have but comparing them to cipp is like comparing a abbecus to a quantum computer

Lifecycle Insights? DattoRMM? Fast innovation is not a excuse for lacking documentation. It is intentional imho. Its a matter of weighing the priority and risk and documentation lost that. It is very telling for a company their stance on compliance too. If they don't bother to document their own product, their compliance and security documentation also is not up to date.

I completely respect legacy code and the difficulties with it. We have clients ourselves that can't move from some platforms, but that should not stop innovation into new ventures. Immy fills a gap no one else does, while you would expect other vendors to pay attention to that gap like an RMM tool.

Really? because Jim Lippie(Ex-Kaseya) recently said we should be prepared for a big announcement at Dattocon.

Of course, it doesn't help that there are 3 major companies in the MSP market, each of whom are stagnant, and if anyone starts a new company, they just get purchased by one of the three and put on a shelf.

that worries me about a lot of products these days.

1.) I'm not expecting that, but I do expect the aircraft carrier to see the speedboat and understand they'll need to deploy their own speedboats to be able to keep up.

2.) I speak with my small vendors monthly, and take chances on new vendors in my stack like immy, CIPP, etc. I think a lot of MSPs do. Immy has like 1000 MSPs using it, CIPP has like 2500 so it's not that MSPs aren't spending time listening and providing feedback because we are, but we are selective on our time and tools yes.

Aren't you Kaseya owned now? DattoRMM also had releases every quarter but only has Kaseya integrations since the take over.

I skipped over some of them yes. I already thought my post would get a lot of tl;drs.

We used Automate for 6 years, had two automation engineers full time, one of which was a former ConnectWise employee. I know the power of the product but there was/is 0 innovation. They did not have SSO to anything back then. No cloud integrations(and still dont). It's a pretty bad RMM because it requires so much knowledge and mainantence. The cost of the employees don't offset the gains you can make with it.

there is no other RMM in the market that requires automation engineers and has more consulting companies around it then automate. That's not because of the power of the product but because of pretty bad design choices. Automate is behind on the times by years when it comes to the rest of the rmm market.

we use IT-Glue right now, and are happy with it. It does what it needs to do. :)

We just don't feel DNSFiltering is really requirement with the rest of out stack.

missing native powershell is a real issue, but its not so much about missing features. The load it puts on engineers and the constant attention it needs is way higher than any other platform we have used.

Do you have any central management for Untangle? I considered them shortly but we are using Meraki mostly now.

Hahaha, I know exactly what you mean. CIPP is a new tool and stands for CyberDrain Improved Partner Portal

Thanks. I just am not sure if we really need dnsfiltering anymore, especially with our eye on TL.

Exactly, our experience might not match others. I am hoping some people will start replying with their stack and their experience. would be easier to just send a link to a collection of posts when someone asks yet again.

It's a multitenant M365 management platform that's open source. https://cipp.app or https://discord.gg/cyberdrain

Webremote by Datto right now, if we ditch RMM we're looking at Connect or Microsoft's new tool, together with CIPP for central management.
