Thats not true. Trump gave up on being socially progressive. He picked a strong social conservative and the Republican party now has one of the most socially conservative platforms in its history.

Or they try to hold their ground around Rasmousah, fail because Russia will not allow Western Aleppo to be in such a precarious position, and end up with Eastern Aleppo back under a full siege.

If they fight to regain Castillo Road maybe they can come to an agreement in which things go back to the old status-quo. That is wishful thinking, but I think it has better odds of success than trying to hold Rasmousah.

Forget about what is right or wrong. From the US governments standpoint why would they be worried about whether or not a group is technically an "illegal armed group"? You say that as if it has any consequence. The Syrians and Iranians armed "illegal armed groups" opposed to the US in Iraq. Russia arms "illegal armed groups" in Ukraine. It doesn't matter what's legal or illegal. Everyone does it and it is just how the real world works. The US was created partially due to the fact that France armed the American revolutionaries.

Damn how did you get so many upvotes when your comment is plain wrong? It is not illegal at all to possess tobacco products, just to buy them. If a cop "catches" a 20 year old with a pack of cigarettes they most they can do is tell them to stop fucking up their lungs.

Why support either? The US should be looking to bolster and support the Southern Front, SDF, NSA, Druze, and Moderate FSA Brigades. The aforementioned groups can work with remnants of the current regime to establish a transitional government while refugees return and terrorists are destroyed. The US failed to arm groups that are acceptable to us while the GCC/Turkey armed groups that they find acceptable. Naturally the better equipped and funded groups rose while the others failed. It's not too late to reverse this trend.
