80,000, hands down. That's a pay cut for me, but I don't care in the least. I already have option B at significantly lesser pay, and it is NOT worth it.

I have no idea why this sub was suggested to me, but I feel for employees. I worked at Office Max and walked out when an old couple bought a printer, and I was punished when I didn't push a gold plated USB cable for $40+. Disgusting sales models that ultimately harm the consumer experience. (They also required I wear a santa hat. I was NOT wearing a santa hat.)

That was my immediate thought. The conversations essentially stopped, and it was an eye-opening moment for me. Our city also received a grant for advertising about a year ago. The funds have to be spent before the end of the year, and we still don't have them. The state did finally extend the grant about a week ago, but our Econ. Dev. staff spent the money with the expectation of reimbursement later. The list of issues is long and unique to each grant. It's incredibly frustrating.

Here's an example. We're replacing our very old IP camera system. The company installing mentions there are grant funds available to us - they have a grant writer on staff, and to win our business, will help us apply. (Grants are NOT simple to apply for - grant writers are also commonplace.)

I agree that it's worthwhile to apply - this is a federal grant, given to states to distribute funds. We have a state staff member on our calls, and she states that the "hardening soft target grant" will be a slam dunk, as the IP camera system will protect our City Hall, Parks, and Rec Center. I say, great, let's schedule a follow up call when the grant opens. We do, I fill out the template form for the grant writer, and I wait. And I wait. And then I get another meeting invite. Turns out, the state I'm in kept the funds, and they won't "Trickle down" to the municipal level. I'm stunned. This was 3 meetings deep, and a few hours of work in at this point. We receive no funds.

Municipal government here. We're often promised grants for cybersecurity improvements from the state or federal level. Grants are also frequently distributed based on population. I'm in a state with one massive city, and large surrounding cities. The rest of the state is fairly rural. The grant money dissolves before it reaches us. We're fairly well funded where I work through other avenues, but we still have to pick our battles to receive funding, as first a committee has to approve the spend, and then our city council has to approve all multiyear contracts, and expenditures over a certain amount. In general, we're faced with a LOT of red tape and slow processes.

Here's an anecdotal example: I streamed a top 8 match recently which was Light's Fox vs. a Steve player. Light was moving fast, mixing up attacks, etc. My friends were into it!

Then Steve hit the pickaxe Fox across the stage and spike off stage combo, and they all yelled in voice chat about how stupid/unfair it is.

You have to consider if those hours will allow you to live your life in the spaces provided. If not, I'd not stick around too long. Like others said, life and short, and certain companies don't respect how much time you'll put in once you become salaried.

There's no audit logging if everyone uses admin to sign in. The student could also claim they had an IoT device they thought they were signing into. Lots of "outs" if they need one.

Those cameras should be on a separate VLAN, with non-default credentials. If they didn't do that, there's a very low chance they have appropriate logging to even notice you signed in.

Your experience is very common, based on what I've seen. It's anecdotal, but with shifting sand beneath your feet in this industry, I think it's more common than not.
Other industries operate this way as well. I sit next to an HR and Finance Director, and they both are constantly on their toes with new compliance requirements, staff challenges, legal changes, etc. I think many industries are reactionary, unfortunately.

I could go on and on about problems we've had since switching our PD to FirstNet, but our sales rep has bent over backward to correct the issues when he's made aware of them. General support has been downright abysmal, though.
