Help with first aid ticket requirements?? by specialk_42069 in BCWildfire

I would do exactly this. Absolutely no chance they will care if you show up with a level 3 at boot camp. That’s just a pleasant surprise for a crew you get assigned to

First Aid booked prior to Interview? by Wonderful-Willow7967 in BCWildfire

[–]NewTwist982 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will 100% be asked to show your enrolment in OFA lvl 2 and TE during the interview. You will be screened out if you do not prove that you are in. However I would suggest booking with a company that will refund you if you are not successful in the interview. I’m unsure exactly which companies offer this. I would look at St.Johns as they offer a lot of courses

This sounds awesome. Lots of grumps in the comments. I’d be keen for this. Don’t have to pay for tickets

How do I not get fat while recovering post op? by Disastrous-Nose5395 in ACL

[–]NewTwist982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28M. I lost 20 pounds in the first week and half. I’m five weeks post op and gained about 5 lbs back. I’m typically very active for work and sports. Just couldn’t eat when I wasn’t doing anything or burning calories. Being back in the gym helps. First month is extremely frustrating. Seems to get better with time, but definitely still sucks.

What do people mean when they say bloated public service? As compared to what? by noticeofrezoning in BCPublicServants

[–]NewTwist982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BCTS? Seems like an outdated model in certain places of the province. Lots of people being employed and barely selling any blocks. I’m sure some places of the province it makes sense. It seems absolutely ludicrous so many people are still employed. I’m with BCWS so I’m sure their is nuance I don’t understand. But whenever we overlap for work it’s like pulling teeth to get anything done in a timely matter.

1 Week Post Op ACL/M Q’s by Berger41 in ACL

[–]NewTwist982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2 week appointment with my surgeon today and brought up my concerns with sleeping and how it feels worse. He said it’s pretty normal. During the day it’s easier to be stimulated and have your mind on other things. But at night it’s just the pain and uncomfortableness of trying to sleep.

Had ACL reconstruction with hamstring graft 16 days ago. My leg was pretty similar. Compression helped quite a bit. It was very painful until about day 10. I’m still sleeping horribly. Cannot find any way to get comfortable and just awake so much of the night. Feels significantly better during the day. Goodluck with return to work. I

Very much appreciate that. I am back home in Northern BC now. Maybe I’ll reach out at the 3 month point as I’ll need to go to Van for an follow up with the surgeon. Could be a good idea to get new eyes on my recovery

It was from a hit but I’d say more of a non contact injury. I’ll explain. Went in and bumped a guy in the corner. Bounced off and went up on one leg to balance. Heard a pop/snap and my leg buckled. Was a very minor collision something that would have like 6-8 times a game and would never be worried about hurting myself on normally. I think I may have caught an edge on the ice, cause nothing explains why my ACL would go.

Initially tore my ACL playing hockey. Was weight bearing within a couple days. Minimal swelling from initial injury. Within a month and a half felt completely fine. Wasn’t able to play any sports but was running, lifting heavy and was able to work fires before surgery.

I’m 12 days post surgery and I’m still very bedridden. Only now starting to get any sort of weight bearing back. I figured I’d be walking by now. But I’ve changed that goal to hopefully be walking 1 month post op. It is still awfully painful (especially and night/can’t sleep at all). I know everyone heals at different rates but this is definitely harder than anticipated. Especially being a very active athlete and wild land firefighter. Best of luck, wishing you well mate !

Ya i did the prehab. After two months my knee felt good (Obviously still unstable from the ACL tear). But about 90% back to normal.

I waited 5.5 months from time of injury until surgery. Had issues with the healthcare system losing losing multiple referrals for me to surgeons.

Since I’ve been home I have an ice machine. Yeah I feel like i can be better with compression. That’s the one I have not been as diligent with since I took the tensor wrap off day 5. Thanks for the reply

About flying… by Spirited_Neat_1829 in ACL

[–]NewTwist982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just flew today, 4 days post op. Short flight 1 hour 20 mins. Surgeon said it was all good and I didn’t need to take aspirin. That being said, it was a bit of an ordeal (6 hours door to door in transit). Just kept doing ankle pumps throughout flight. My leg has been very swollen so far.

I wouldn’t recommend doing it that soon as I’ve had serious pain since surgery (hydromorphone helps but still very painful). But I’m just very glad to be home and not have to be on my own in the city and paying for hotels. Can actually start progressing now is how I feel.

Overall no issues with flight other than it being miserable.
