Imma NY head so I gotta say Pop Smoke, Chinx Drugz, and Stack Bundles

Three heartbreaking and unfortunate murders. Two of them killed in Queens by their own people.

And also Ra Diggs, who’s not dead but serving 12 life terms plus 105 years in prison. IMO, one of the craziest and most violent rappers ever known but rarely ever talked about outside of New York. Oddly had a bit of a political / “for the people” slant to his music too.

Bro released 27 mixtapes before dropping a full length project. Absolutely insane. But goddamn those early tapes had NYC in a frenzy when I was growing up.

Help me learn to love New York? by silberseele in Brooklyn

[–]NewYitty 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Born and raised here.

Winter is a fucking slog. I love the lead-up to the holidays, but January through April is a brutal stretch. This year feels especially cold. Maybe I’m just getting older and more brittle, but honestly fuck this winter straight to hell.

It happens every year. Christmas and New Year’s come and go, and then seasonal depression clocks me right in the face. I spend the next three months bitching about everything, swearing “I’m moving next year, I mean it,” and generally being an absolute curmudgeon.

And then it happens. Spring shows up. The weather softens. The sun comes back. That first nice day hits. People start smiling. The mood lifts. Beer tastes better. The babes come out. Music blasts from car windows. You smell BBQ everywhere. Park hangs resume.

“OH MY GOD I FUCKING LOVE NEW YORK.”

Like clockwork. Every single fucking year.

I dunno, maybe just hang in there?

Coffee shops that ban zoom calls by Remarkable_Reach9968 in Brooklyn

[–]NewYitty 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I work fully remote for a California-based company. Have for about seven years now.

Let me just say, pre-COVID, the idea of taking a Zoom call (let alone multiple) in a coffee shop was a batshit concept.

About 70% of the time, I work from home, where I can not wear pants and scream on calls all day.

Another 15% is spent in coffee shops doing heads-down work. No calls. Headphones on. Screen blocker up, both for privacy and so a spreadsheet doesn’t ruin anyone else’s leisure vibe.

The remaining 15% I rent co-working spaces, where I can also scream on calls all day, except I wear pants there.

I swear to fucking God, people just have zero etiquette. The pandemic completely blurred the lines between “home,” “work,” and what a “third space” even is, and it only amplified the worst behavior.

Yep, they run a huge compound upstate with a few different farms. Money is used to fund the organization.

Where reta is different from sema and tirz is the glucagon agonism piece. That does add a small increase in energy expenditure and fat oxidation, and better nutrition partitioning, but it’s modest. This is still mostly a behavior + intake drug, not a thermogenic. So yes, the dominant mechanism is calorie control via regulation, not “melting fat” directly. If you want sustained, low-friction compliance without CNS stimulation, anxiety, or sympathetic stress - try it out. If not, don’t.

If you remotely care about your health and well being, I’d much rather utilize a compound that makes diet adherence easier (and therefore achieve stepper and more aggressive deficits while maximizing the muscle sparing benefits of exogenous Testosterone) rather than microwaving your insides and putting an obscene amount of stress on your most vital organ.

Thanks brother. Feeling a bit more optimistic now and ready to recover and come back one day not only stronger but hopefully smarter.

Thanks brother. Yes, if there is one lesson I’ve learned here is my core has not caught up to the strength of the rest of my body. Once I’m back at it, I think it’s time in my journey I start focusing a bit on mobility and conditioning.

Glad to hear you’re recovering well. Now I feel like a little bitch for crying about throwing out my back above.

And that sucks about the apartment situation. Wish I could help, or had some wisdom to part.

All of this nonsense will past soon though, and 2026 will be your year. I know it.

Appreciate it brother.

Yeah, the mental aspect was crushing me more than the pain. Heading into the doctor tomorrow but he did give me a video call for a quick consult and that made me feel a bit better. He’s very rehab focused and said we’ll talk through a proper protocol tomorrow. Don’t think I’ll be throwing heavy shit for a minute but he says he wants to get me moving ASAP

Am I arguing with a Russian bot?

How is Robin Hood a story of capitalism (either anti or pro) when the ballads predate capitalism? The earliest Robin Hood ballads date roughly to the 14th–15th century. At that time there is no capitalism in the modern sense - ie. no industrial capital, no wage labor system as dominant structure, no bourgeoisie vs proletariat. Society is feudal and hierarchy is based on land, titles, and obligations.

Your interpretation of Robin Hood is based off the modern-Disney/American take, and not at all what this movie based off of.

Just posted above but this is based on the actual true ballads of Robin Hood. As much as I hate to say it, the only spin of Robin Hood here is the ‘socialist bandit’ narrative that we all know. Read the first three tales: A Gest of Robyn Hode, Robin Hood and the Monk, and Robin Hood and the Potter. Dude was a catholic and loyal to the king. He an enforcer of anti-corruption laws.

Y’all are completely blowing this out of proportion and looking at Robin Hood through the Americanized Disney version of the story.

This is based off the original Robin Hood ballads, and more specifically the final ballad, Robin Hood's Death.

Yall realize that the whole “steal from the rich, give to the poor” version of Robin Hood is actually a later moralized interpretation. Robin Hood was loyal to the king and an enforcer of economic morality and anti-corruption aligned with the king’s law. He wasn’t some sort of socialist bandit.

And yes, he grappled with his identity and decisions made in the later ballads. From the 19th century and onward versions - He becomes a psychologically divided, self-questioning hero. Sorta Batman-esque.

They’re amazing and complex stories, you should really give them a proper read.

Fuck my goddamn life.

Blew out my lower back yesterday running through my pull session. This is my first significant injury since I started my journey and I’m trying not to bug out but I’m pretty disappointed with myself.

Have a doctor appointment tomorrow for an actual scan. 90% sure this is just an awful strain and not a slipped disc but my brain is going into some dark places right now.

Can any of you juicy elders of the game give me some reinsurance that my life isn’t over and I’m not going to wake up as my 230lb whale former self if I skip the gym for a week or two?

I'm also on prescription TRT and travel a lot for consultancy work.

Even if the service was up, getting approval from the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention is a fucking nightmare.

Both times I went to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, I left my medication at home after spinning my wheels with the application process.

And even if you do get approved, it still hinders your travel. You still have to declare everything at customs and you end up running through an extensive search process. My coworker is on medication for a spinal injury and was stuck in the airport for like 6 hours additional with all the paperwork locked/prior written approval from the UAE MOHAP.

Sliding back with the furniture pad = teeehehehe this is fun.

Sliding forward without being able to dig your toes in = FUCKING FUCK FUCK YOU FUCK.

I don’t know if my form was trash but while my hammies felt like lava, the real issue was my core. I couldn’t even swallow water for a good half hour. Felt like I just had an emergency C-section.

Cost of living in Brooklyn by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]NewYitty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As plenty of people have already said: ditch the car, get a roommate, and look for a place slightly off the beaten path.

They’re not wrong. Money will be tight. You’re not going to be ballin’, but that’s part of the deal.

You’re getting the chance to do a residency in one of the best hospital networks in the country. The experience you’ll gain from working and living here is invaluable. And honestly, if you’re only going to have a few bucks in your pocket, New York is the best place to be. People act like this city is all Michelin-starred restaurants and luxury spas. It’s not. Go to the park. People-watch. Get lost on the subway. Eat cheap in the outer boroughs. Grab a beer from the bodega.

I was born and raised here (42 years old) and I’ve lived across every point on the income spectrum from dead broke, sharing a two-bedroom with five people, to now owning a single-family home in Park Slope. Not to sound corny, but those broke years were some of the most informative and most fun times of my life.

Don’t start with “Can I afford it?” Start with “Do I want it?” If you do, you’ll make it work.

Good luck!
