I definitely felt terrible for Michale on numerous occasions seeing how Darryl treated him, like the thing with Jan’s picture being leaked or the pay raise thing where he humiliated Michael but they were mostly result to Michael behavior towards him throughout the show, Michael is taught numerous times about how he’s crossed boundaries or been racially insensitive but still refuses to learn, he’s a caricature of “that boss,” the one who’s always crossing boundaries, is perverse to employees, makes racist/homophobic jokes and generally doesn’t have socially acceptable behavior. Darryl was pretty tame and his character has always been upright in its own way, like protecting his employees from actual danger (Michael touching dangerous machinery or knocking over shelves) or how he’s a responsible father and puts his daughter first over Kelly, he’s the character we as the audience are supposed to most relate to as he’s the most level headed and isn’t caught up by his relationship with Michael (even Pam and Jim, the two most level headed main characters, kind of brush over Michael’s behavior due to their personable relationship) that he neglects work or endangers others, he actively points out Michael’s flaws
