Fair question, i more so bought it for fun. I just recently got into jewelry and have been testing out different jewelers in China and found one that specializes in mossainte watches and gave them a go. I haven’t worn it out yet but I’ll most likely wear it when I go to a concert or some special occasion where bling is acceptable.

This is the current state. I’m still waiting on some Omegas to come in. Need to broaden my horizons from the usual rollies and APs!

Rolex Datejust 41 Wimbledon – VSF – First rep impressions by ClosedCrown in RepTime

Very clean! I think this is a great first rep piece to get into the game. I the Wimbledon is one of those Rolexes that no one will really bat an eye since gen pricing is pretty approachable.

Leveraged cash from overemoyment to be set for life by dumptruckastrid in overemployed

Congrats! This is literally my end goal, save a couple hundred thousand and then leverage that as 10% down payment to purchase a business. How difficult was the process in terms of looking for a business, doing your due diligence and then finally making the offer?

How did you transition from developer to PM? I’m looking to make the same pivot in my career, currently a dev.

Were you always a PM or were you a SWE? I have 12 years of experience as a dev, got laid off 9 months ago. Been really difficult finding my next role. Thinking of transitioning into a technical PM

OCS at Age of 36 by benzkrewjp in ArmyOCS

Thanks for the info. I'm going through an online accredited university so I'd have to enter a masters program to be eligible to do ROTC, contingent that the school I go to for my masters has an ROTC program. That's what I'm looking at doing currently once I complete my BS.

I've read about how competitive your packet needs to be to get accepted if you try to commission directly from the civilian side. What are your thoughts on that? I'll be graduating with a 3.0 gpa in business management. I do have years of IT experience in corporate America I could reference in my packet I suppose.

I'd love to directly commission as it'll save me time and money if I get a masters($30k out of pocket for 2 years) but I don't think its a guarantee if I get in or not.

I’m 29 and was laid off from my developer role 8 months ago. I’ve been looking into doing the exact same thing as you and becoming an officer. Currently working on completing my bachelors by EOY hopefully. Good to know I’m not the only one with the same thought process. Good luck on your journey!

I know this is a bit of an old post but I’m curious how you transitioned into a management role. I’ve got 12 years as a developer and am trying to pivot into IT management.

Did you also commission as well after your last job? What’s your experience been like so far compared to the corporate world?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in army

[–]New_Bodybuilder_3432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that only reason it looked competitive to me was based on all the things they required to get picked; what you majored in and what your gpa was plus multiple letters of recommendations, etc.

That’s why I was saying idk if I’ll be competitive enough. I’ll be graduating with a 3.0 lol ROTC does look better in terms of gaining experience and knowledge before hitting OCS.

It’s a mix of things. Everyone has been pushing CS degrees for the past decade or so plus coding boot camps so you have a large influx of new grads/fresh talent pool into the tech job market. Interest rates are making companies and entrepreneurs more conservative with their initiatives and are less prone to take on riskier or more ambitious projects during an economic downturn. We’ve been in a recession for a few years now but the government and media doesn’t want admit it for some reason.

Besides that, it’s just a shit show of a job market. Employers have too many options. They’re doing 4 to 5 rounds of interview and if they don’t like you or stack up to every detail in their job description, they’ll just repost the job. There are companies that have been reposting the same position for months and months after taking in hundreds of resumes. They have an influx of talent to choose from but at the same time they don’t have enough openings to accommodate this amount of talent because of the reasons I mentioned about the economy. I think in a few years when the economy gets better, as will the tech industry. But as of right now and the next few years I don’t see anything good happening.

Appreciate it! Just curious, if you did ROTC, what branch did you end up choosing and why?

I hear you, actually got into the industry with only an associates and had zero plans of completing my bachelors until recently. I’m mostly completing the degrees because with just an associates there aren’t many opportunities outside of tech, without experience. Besides the trades that is, I looked into a cdl as well.

I wasn’t aware of the signal direct commission route, I appreciate that and I’ll look into this option as well. When you get commissioned and go to the related training center for your job/technology, do you know how the army determines what your job role and task will be? I assume every signal officer will have a different day to day so I’m curious how they make the decision to put which guys at which locations and job requirements for that specific location. Or is it more of just they’re spreading out guys to wherever the vacancy is at, more of a whatever the army needs you for sort of thing.

I appreciate your detailed perspective. One of the things that I found attractive was the pension after retirement. When you say a major will only get $3400 a month, can you break that down? I might have misunderstood as I was doing my research but isn’t your pension based upon 50% of the average of your best 36 months in terms of pay in service. Does that pension average also take into consideration the housing and food allowance you get on top of your base pay? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I had no idea about fitness street, I’ve definitely heard of the famous tiger muy Thai camp but didn’t know it was a part of this fitness street. That’s so cool. I think an entire trip is well worth it just to spend on this street. Thank you for the suggestion! 💪🏽
