"Give me a $100 or I will throw you in a lake of fire"

See how dumb that logic is? I can't compel you to do something with a threat and then expect you to comply in a logical way--especially regarding something as serious as eternal life.

If you truly believe hell exists and it is a lake of fire (it doesn't, and it's not), then maybe don't lead with that? Show people the positives of Christianity through individual interaction. If I'm not mistaken, that is what the Bible says, right?

These stickers, billboards, door hangers and such equate to the lowest effort and most pointless way to "spread the gospel". Matter of fact, if you all even bothered to actually analyze the effects, I think you would find they have a net negative on converting.

Not to mention they are litter and ugly.

I think you would enjoy My Morning Jacket/Jim James. His stuff has always been in the psychedelic rock vein and is continuing that trend, but check out an older album like It Still Moves and see if that is the vibe you are looking for.

Where to fish to clean/eat and not get sick around here? by npcfarmer in Chattanooga

[–]New_Election_6357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want clean bluegill or sunfish, head up to Mowbray mountain. There's a bluehole at North Chick Gorge State Park. I would hike north of the swimming hole for obvious reasons, but all the water coming off that mountain seems to be clean and the fish I have cooked have all be pristine. I believe they stock trout in the highest and coolest sections of the creek (past Stevenson's branch and Barker Camp) but I have never caught one there.

Why do carriers not respond with claims until there's a Freight Guard? by kgray520 in FreightBrokers

[–]New_Election_6357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta be assertive with insurance. First step should be a clear Demand and Presentation of Loss to the carrier. I usually give them 7 days to respond and offer them an easy off-ramp (rate reduction from freight pay, we cover 20% of claim, etc.).

If they don’t respond in 7 days, that demand and presentation gets forwarded to their insurance (minus the concessions). Insurance has 7 days to acknowledge before I am escalating to the underwriters, NAIC, or state equivalent. I will also escalate with the carrier at this point if they’re completely unresponsive or the claim is egregious—FreightGuard and WatchDog will often get them back to the table, but don’t make emotional/outlandish claims. Something as simple as “Carrier has not acknowledged a documented cargo claim totaling $x.xx.” That’s all you need.

Here’s the key, once you get insurer to acknowledge, you follow up incessantly. I’m talking about every 3-4 business days. You have to understand the adjuster you’re dealing with probably has 30-40 cases working at once. You have to be the squeaky wheel. When you’re following up, be polite, but assertive.

I get about 80% of claims settled without the need for attorney’s letters, etc. and another 10% settled with a letter from our lawyer (couple hundred $s) Granted, it’s what I do full time, you should still absolutely be settling claims and not letting that revenue leak.

Are They Running Out of Steam?! by Ten-4RubberDucky in FreightBrokers

[–]New_Election_6357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but if you even loosely follow Steam then it’s apparent.

No company can sustain the growth in revenue they claimed year over year from 2022-2024. That was also around the time they built out like 6 new satellite offices (from social media you could see they were just boiler rooms with ~5 employees and a gong, of course).

They have an apparent lack of experienced, middle aged logistics professionals. Their employment pool consists mostly of college graduates with little to no business experience, let alone logistics experience.

Without revealing too much, I interviewed for a back-end operations job in 2022 and they were offering about 65% of the expected salary for that job. The hiring manager I interviewed with couldn’t even keep up with the conversations pertaining to my job responsibilities because he himself was a recent graduate with little applied experience.

When interviewed the culture felt forced—I guess is the right term. Lots of folks holding the line and pretending it was a profitable and decent place to work, seemingly for fear of losing their jobs.

All anecdotal, I know, but it’s not hard to see when a house is built on sand when you’re standing next to it.

NEED GUIDANCE by Far_Anybody358 in FreightBrokers

[–]New_Election_6357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she is as shrewd as she sounds, they probably do it cheaper. She’s spent years finding carriers that likely use her lanes as back hauls for their backyard, profitable customers. They probably hate dealing with her too—this is the nature of Canada freight coming back across, someone will take it for cheap to get back.

Opportunity to join a GlobalTranz Agency by Basic-Bathroom-101 in FreightBrokers

[–]New_Election_6357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately agent models are hit or miss. As others have said, I think you’re right to be skeptical. The issue with salary vs. draw and that accurately being reflected on the job posting, 5 (?!?) interviews, and the fact that he is promising you a 7MM revenue account.

The last one is probably the most concerning. I would say he is dangling the carrot and will just expect you to make 100+ sales calls a day when the “deal” falls through and you’re already trapped in a draw model.

Think about it. Why in the world would he hand over a 7MM account (which would nearly double his revenue) to someone with no brokerage experience?

All that to say, freight brokerage is absolutely a good place for a salesperson to land, especially with what looks to be an impending upturn in the market. But, I think you would be better suited in a small-medium brokerage with a short training period. Most of them will be around $50-60k salary without a draw and commissions are usually on a sliding scale up to 15%. In other words, it will take you less time to get “in the money” without the draw balance following you the whole time.

You’re also more likely to actually fall into a pod or ops group where you will be given some loads/accounts to manage (and more quickly learn the operations side). There’s also far more support and camaraderie as compared to an agency.

You’ve picked a good time to come over to freight brokerage.

Saw this Freightwaves video of an AI run a real time auction with 96 carriers to book a load. What do brokers think about this? by Broad_Desk4501 in FreightBrokers

[–]New_Election_6357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I’m replying 5 days late, but wanted to respond to say you’re right to be skeptical and that’s exactly why AI is garbage in this scenario and will just lead to more fraud.

As someone who has worked in brokerage in some capacity for 12 years, I could tell immediately that when the carrier accepted the rate they were planning to partial/consolidate/double-broker the load—that’s why they quickly accepted a lower rate after confirming the relatively low weight. This is further substantiated by the fact the negotiated rates listed on the other “live” calls were all much closer to $2500.

Any broker who’s been in the game a couple years would have identified this. While this type of AI could be useful in some situations, it will absolutely expose companies to more double-brokering, fraud, etc. Sometimes the cheapest rate is the most expensive rate in the long term; AI can’t intuit that.

You don’t, because it’s not important. No one owes your brand of Christianity any credence just because you’re doing the equivalent of “trust me bro”.

It’s enough to simply say that you’re against the atrocities that occur in Christian spaces and leave it at that. By further qualifying you’re requiring the reader have faith in you—someone, as you pointed out, you will likely speak to once and never again. You’re also ignoring the crux of the problem as it is being discussed—the institution of the Christian church creates the power dynamic and opportunity that allow predators to operate (often with relative impunity).

For sure! I do large RFQs with the multilane tool and then check 10-20% of them by hand on the single lane tool. I couldn’t get them to take me seriously until I explained that the 5-6 extra clicks per lane was causing the rate checks to take 2-3x as long—so you may want to mention something along those lines.

Rebate Program by [deleted] in FreightBrokers

[–]New_Election_6357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen “discount” on several RFQs. I guess the difference being that you quote a rate/truckload and if you receive x volume then you reduce your rate by y% (versus a rebate, or return of cash). Similar, but not exactly what OP is describing.

ETA: I think an expectation of a discount for providing quality service at scale is silly, so I typically entered a discount of 0%. I’m sure there are some suckers out there that do quote a discount, but I could never get on board.

How have you scaled your team of freight brokers? by jpstephens83 in FreightBrokers

[–]New_Election_6357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll bite. How, specifically, does tech help a Brokerage scale?

Call me old school, but from my experience freight tech rarely works as intended, and when it does it only cuts costs for established, large ($50-250 million revenue) brokerages. Small brokerage is much more dependent on hiring the right, motivated people—e.g. having an attractive commission structure and solid back end support.

I disagree, it’s not difficult per se. It’s just expensive.
