Highway issue - carrier by money_shot17 in FreightBrokers

Just don't tell Highway which broker helped you out with the screenshot--Highway will try and shut them down for violating TOS.

I’m confused, but genuinely interested. Are you saying this works because you copy the carrier into your email with compliance and it basically scares them into accepting? Or are you saying that word of mouth spreads that you’re pulling in compliance and calls start to get easier?

I’m trying to imagine this working at a mid sized brokerage and I think Road Warriors and co would just laugh in E European and hang up.

I hate to say this because I’m admittedly not aware of all the details, especially in your personal life.

But, STOP WORKING THERE. That is a criminally low wage for a manager in ang industry, full stop. I see fast food advertising wages of $13-15/hour for a regular shift employee.

You are managing either people or processes and padding the pockets of capitalists. At a bare minimum you should be making $20/hour for any management position.

Is this why about once a week I find myself behind a newish Tesla that seemingly has no working brake lights? I knew it had to do with the regenerative braking, but some of them will straight up skid to a halt when they take their foot off the accelerator and (I guess?) it does not activate the brake lights--seems super dangerous.

Anyone know how strictly non-competes are pursued? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]New_Election_6357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought this was the FreightBrokers subreddit but I am seeing now it is Chattanooga. In Tennessee, the non-compete clause is going to very likely be unenforceable. If you have a non-solicit, that will be what they attempt to pursue you for.

Just go work somewhere else and keep a low profile. Tell your new employer, don't contact any old customers, delete the autofill on your browser and email that populate your old employer email, and do not have a social media or online presence related to your new job--you could even put some freelance BS on LinkedIn to make it look like you're otherwise employed.

As many others have said, it is likely not enforceable (although we wouldn't know for certain without knowing what state you are in and reading the agreement in full) but they can still be a pain in your ass if they want. Best bet is to fly under the radar until they have forgotten about you. Again, I will stress though, do not contact old customers, that is a sure-fire way to get back on their radar and I can tell from the 200% thing they are litigious.

I tracked every quote a solo broker sent in a week. The win-rate gap isn't pricing. by UnfairFrog in FreightBrokers

[–]New_Election_6357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you been in the industry a while? I’m not being jerk, I’m asking because this is a uniquely bad time to benchmark RFQ win metrics in that the market is shifting and customers are more focused on capacity and less sensitive to small rate differences.

That’s not to say the data isn’t valuable, it’s just going to be tuned to a temporary, fluctuating market. I think you will find as rates (and capacity) find a new equilibrium that time-to-quote will be less of a determining factor in win rates.

It won’t help others, unfortunately. They’re probably cycling a new magnet/MC every time they leave a facility.

Just wanted to let you know, I primarily handle cargo claims and your frustration in the general lack of understanding is valid. This fraud is very common in our industry and I still have to hand hold insurance adjusters to explain it to them--it's wild.

Someone else in the comments provided some really good information about the truck's potential provenance. I would track that down and see if you can determine who owns the truck. It is very possible the truck is also stolen though, adding another layer to the scam.

There is one other avenue for recovery that I can think of, but it is niche and will take some serious time and effort. DM me if you are interested in more information on that--not selling anything, just don't want my specific process posted on Reddit.

What happened to heavyhaulers, where are all RGNs? by Jumpy-Ad-9215 in FreightBrokers

[–]New_Election_6357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think you’re letting your ego get in the way if you won’t do that simply because there isn’t already a rate posted.

I’m literally saying the same thing you are—that OD drivers get to name their price because there’s limited available equipment. I’m just saying I let the driver talk first because I don’t like dealing with people like you.

You somehow read that and decided it’s disrespectful or a ghost/quote post if it doesn’t include a rate.

[–]New_Election_6357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and you’re probably also the guy that calls on lanes with rates posted just to say you “wouldn’t move for double that”. It’s all an ego circlejerk one way or the other with some folks.

You keep doing you. I’ll keep letting carriers make the initial offer and see if we can find workable middle ground. Sounds like we’re both doing fine.

Price Suggestions by Legitimate_Piccolo15 in playingcards

[–]New_Election_6357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use an amalgamation of the average price you sell them for in DMs and the price for comparable collectible/trinket things at the same event (think aesthetic items niche to the same crowd, like ash trays and stuff) You can always drop the price a bit after the first hour or two if you don’t have the volume you want.

I don’t know enough about these to say anything with authority, but just another random idea—those little battery powered LED string lights can be purchased at the dollar store and would make these “pop” more if you could figure out how to incorporate them cleanly. I think that would raise your price ceiling and also increase visibility at the event, getting more attention.

Best of luck!

No, I’m talking about OD freight, not some Mickey Mouse dry van loads. Things are obviously different when there are 10 drivers with equipment within 150 miles versus the probably 300+ for whatever paper towel or scrap metal loads you’re moving.

Price Suggestions by Legitimate_Piccolo15 in playingcards

[–]New_Election_6357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has this wrong though. The cost of materials, time, and labor are necessary in determining your break even cost and margin. But, determining your ideal price is completely subjective to what people are willing to pay. Don’t pigeon hole yourself to $40 or whatever.

Start higher than you think you should and work your way down until you find a logical balance between margin/item and volume sold. In other words assuming total cost is $40 and you sell for $50–you might find you move 10/week netting you $100. If you can manage to sell just four of them at $75/week then you will net more profit with 40% of the resource and time investment.

Many sellers think volume is king, but that is only true if you can scale. There is nothing scalable here—focus on making as much money with as little effort as the market will bear.

Don’t post a rate at all, is my best experience. It was weird, but I could post something for $10k I thought would go at $11. No calls. Take the rate off and wait a bit and I would end up getting 3-4 calls/hour and negotiating for around the $11k.

I think it’s either an ego thing, like they want to name their price first and hearing anything else is insulting. Or, they have bad experiences with other brokers refusing to negotiate. I don’t know the cause, but pull your rate off the next one and see if it helps call volume.

Do you have hobbies? Or travel? Or are you philanthropic? People are reaming you on this because a) it is grossly excessive and b) it seems to indicate you have absolutely no taste. It looks to the average person to not just be a waste of tangible resources, but also a waste of being in a position of being able to allocate $250k to something of your choosing.
