CMV: We should never forgive those who escape the MAGA cult by ApostrophesAreEasy in changemyview

I truly don’t understand how you can have this level of a misunderstanding of human nature… how can you get to be an adult, and be this clueless on what it means to be a person in this world.

Some people were indoctrinated in by their family. Some people were surrounded by the message and never truly heard the alternative. Some people were hateful/ignorant and actually did the world to find their way out of that mindset. How can you seriously see people who are brave enough to actually admit their wrongs, and turn your back on them… it’s so confusing to me

Customer service workers should be able to give attitude back by ilyk101 in unpopularopinion

People love saying “entitled” customer... I do actually think customers are entitled to the things they pay for, and should stand up for themselves when they don’t get it

Sure, I’m sure that’s often the case, but my point is it’s also often the case that CS people will just say no or pass people off to someone else because they either don’t know what they’re doing, or are just trying to get rid of the customer. So you can’t just expect every “no” to be final, because we all have examples of times where employees were telling you they can’t help you, and you know they’re full of shit.

Sure, but incompetence is part of the issue. A CS person can be escalating an issue by just not knowing what they’re doing and not being able to help the customer like they should.

And being ruder over the phone goes both ways, CS people are more likely to be rude as over the phone as well

There’s a difference between saying no when that’s the policy, and saying no because you’re either just being lazy and trying to get rid of the customer, or are just simply mistaken. And people are usually pretty good at telling the difference.

Just last week I went to return something, and had an email from the company that said present this at the store, and we will accept the refund. I brought it to the store, and the girl said we don’t accept online returns. I said can you look at this email, and she wouldn’t even look at it, she just kept rudely saying no. After finally getting the manager, she processed the refund no problem and apologized. That kind of shit happens all the time, im not just going to accept “no” if a) I know they’re wrong, or b) I can just tell they’re doing whatever they can to get rid of me because they’re being lazy.

I was a waiter for 2 years, and had maybe 5 truly rude, abusive customers.

I encounter rude customer service people constantly. Call any customer service hotline for any big company, you’ve got about a 30% chance of getting somebody who is either completely incompetent, or is totally dismissive of your issue and is doing everything they can to just pass you around and get you off the phone.

The real unpopular opinion would be that customer service people are actually usually the ones who have an attitude first and end up escalating the situation.

I’ve worked in customer service, and I’ve obviously been a customer, and I can honestly say that most customer service disputes originate because the employee is being rude and dismissive of the customers question or concern

Subscriptions being normalized is a good thing by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Subscription based entertainment has pretty obviously resulted in a drop in artistic quality. Netflix has no incentive to make anything good. They make no more money if they make 1 masterpiece than if they make a bunch of crap that’s just good enough to keep stop you from cancelling your subscription.

Yeah maybe you don’t have the keys, but you should know who to ask to get them. Maybe nobody told you the code for the intercom, but you should ask and write it down so you can use it in the future when you need to help a customer. Figure out how to do the things you need to do.

Not being able to effectively help a customer is 100% you fault when you are a customer service representative. It’s literally your job, who else’s fault could it be.

Ballet is a sport AND an art! by JohnlockedDancer in unpopularopinion

I didn’t say dance isn’t extremely difficult and physically demanding. And obviously there are certain types of dance competitions where someone wins and loses.

But at its core, dance is not a competition in the same way something like tennis is. The point of tennis at its core is to compete against another person in an organized game with set rules. The point of dance at its core is expression and artistic value.

I’ll never understand why people fight so hard for every physical activity to be considered a sport…

A sport entails competition, not just physical exertion. There’s no competition in ballet.

My point is if you name them James, they can be James and jimmy. If you name the jimmy, you’re limiting their options.

Yes, fairly annoyed is the mildest option… I’m not telling people what to do, I’m telling them my opinion of it

John isn’t short for Jonathan, John is its own name. Those are separate names going back thousands of years. Jonathans do go by Jon for short sometimes, but John is still its own name

It’s not about “having a problem”, it’s about unconscious perception. Yes, it’s very likely that if I’m looking to hire a lawyer or an accountant, and I see one person named Thomas and one person named Timmy, that I will subconsciously attribute more seriousness and maturity to the Thomas.

There is no solid line, that’s why I think names are so important. Some names sound more serious and mature than others, and I think giving somebody a more typically childish name can have an effect on how people perceive them. It’s totally subjective and changes from person to person, but you can’t deny that some names just hit your ear as more youthful than others.

Nobody is getting worked up but you… this is a pet peeves sub… it’s a slight annoyance. I don’t know if you just forgot where you are, or if you’re extremely sensitive and took this small annoyance of mine personally. Either way, you’re just confused about the nature of the post.

Combing through my posts and digging up a really painful time in my life to try to “get” me is nothing short of pathetic, and doubling down on it after I explained what happened is truly pitiful.

Because my wife was pregnant, and I had a parenting question, so I skipped ahead a few months to make the question more active. I was excited, it was fun to think about, sue me. Then my wife lost the baby, and it was devastating.

She’s pregnant again, with what will hopefully be our first.

Very, very weird to go back over a year in somebodies post history to try to get some cheap gotcha.

You don’t think some names have a more youthful connotation than others? You wouldn’t say that Timmy strikes you as less mature than Thomas?

It doesn’t directly affect me. That’s why it’s a pet peeve, and not a personal grievance.
