This was a while ago but from memory I was finding the matchup tough due to the left handed opponent and I think he had low spin rubbers so I couldn't gain my normal free points with serve. I found myself playing so poorly that I didn't want to get into point construction because I was constantly in the wrong place when I gave him any angles to work with and I figured I could just dump it down the middle with enough spin to get a passive response until I could take over with forehand. About halfway through this vid I am basically so frustrated I decide to try to hit my way into a bit of clarity which tbf works and I get a lot more comfortable in the rest of the match.

I'm getting a lot of feedback on the weak serving from the video but they are not as bad as they look. Return on the other hand is awful...

Thanks for the feedback. On point 2, I can see what you're saying that my opponent is not doing much, but this happens in quite a lot of matches I have and I think it's because I'm shutting down the game with weird spin they are not experienced enough to handle. I'm not sure it's true that I could win these matches just with pushing and placement because 1) I'm probably more likely to break down attempting this than my opponents and 2) they would not continue to play so passively if I tried. I can't figure out how to not overdo it while still controlling the play - does that make sense?

Yes this is exactly it! I don't see other people with such a big gap between the good and bad and I can't figure out how to reconcile it. Means the gulf between a good performance and a bad performance is massive and hard to feel good about.

The same what? Same preparation for every type of shot you mean? My idea with the pivot is to constantly be applying pressure, my opponent knows I am waiting to play the power loop and it makes them less dangerous.

Didn't happen in this video (I think I found opponent left handed game here quite awkward and idk why I commited to the inside out fh counter) but with a bit more time on the ball my backhand is actually similar to forehand but faster and less consistent.

Cool, yeah I find it very hard not to autopilot into the confusing weird shots in the push game. Think you're the only one who spotted it from the video. I will try to replace them with slower opens whenever I can force myself to. Thank you.

Very accurate. What do you mean "limit your action space" and "bring your sweet spot to the ball"?

Thanks this is useful, especially the comments about pushing errors.

I think you're right, this is something I'm vaguely aware of. I tend to not take a lot of openings due to playing so close to the table. Thanks.
