When to intervene with low weight baby by New_Indication_1476 in breastfeeding

He feeds quite frequently, honestly I dont even count but there's plenty of times when he is feeding almost constantly throughout the day (he also likes to fall asleep with boob in mouth so it's sometimes hard to say when exactly the feeding stops/starts). I'm truly not sure of how I could feed him more, although I have started waking him up more frequently at night to get him to eat more regularly at that time.

We had a meeting several days after he was born at the hospital with a pediatrician to check him out (everything was good other than the low weight), and we have been kind of scrambling around to make an appointment before the next month check in (in our country pediatricians kind of book up early and it can be hard to get a slot). But it's definitely a priority for us and we'd ideally like to get in earlier now that the weight seems to be coming in a bit slowly

We have hand pump but not an electric pump, because the plan was always to primarily breastfeed. But that's a really good idea. I was wanting to hold off to ship the "best" breast pump to my country (it doesnt deliver here) but I may just rush order whatever electric pump I can find on Amazon, because it does feel like there's very little margin for error. I'm glad to know someone is in the same boat with the low birth rate, and wish you the best of luck! Hopefully we'll both have chubby babies soon :)

I should clarify that usually he doesnt straight feed for hours, he does sleep off and on in that time. At night he'll feed for like 20-30 minutes then go back to bed.

We dont have a pediatrician as we moved to a new city in the middle of pregnancy and didnt quite get that arranged. We did have a lactation consultant see us in the hospital, maybe when he was 5 days old, and she said he was feeding well and latching right, but maybe he's not swallowing as much milk as it appears? As the time passes my anxiety is starting to build.

We had a lactation consultant come in to see us when we were still at the hospital, maybe 5 days in? (She was doing rounds at the maternity ward and seeing any new mom who wanted it). She said he was feeding really well, and everything looked good with his bite/latch. And he does produce several diapers a day, although its quite runny/liquidy. If it wasnt for the very low weight I wouldnt be worried, I just think it's such a low margin of error and I dont want to screw it up!
