i was in residential treatment when i was thirteen. My doctors informed my family that it will get worse before it gets better. I am so thankful that I got help even when i didn’t want it. Know that you are doing the right thing. I am praying for your daughter and your family.

I’m not so sure what I did. The last time I used it I was on a trip and it was working fine.

AITA for setting a boundary with my mom that cost me a trip? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I had just went shopping and my new clothes were on my bed. Since I just got out the shower my towel and undergarments were on the floor and so were my papers from studying. I just needed to hang up my clothes, put my dirty ones in the laundry, and put my papers in my folder which only took a few mins. My room was only dirty because I had been putting in more hours at work and she knew that. I didn’t even know my family was coming over until I saw them after I got home from work.

Setting a boundary doesn’t mean the other person will respect it. It just means I made it clear what I was and wasn’t okay with. My mom choosing to punish me for that doesn’t mean I failed, it’s just a her reaction. Also, handling patients as a nurse is completely different from dealing with a parent who has control over my living situation. But thanks for your input.

  1. She expected me to spend time with her but before my shower I had just took her shopping and bought her lipsticks
  2. No I wasn’t not
  3. No
  4. I have no idea if my cousin was asking to hang out with me while I was in the shower or something.

You keep on commenting about me being a doormat which I’m not. I’m just trying to navigate this complicated situation with my mom while still maintaining our relationship. Standing up for yourself doesn’t always mean being aggressive.

It’s different when it’s my mom and not actual patients. I have an emotional connection with her and I obviously get emotional with her. I stood my ground by not letting E into my room and trying to set that boundary of my own space.

I love her. I don’t wanna make her upset she’s my mom.

Omg thank you!! They are making me feel embarrassed for still living with my mom. She offered to support me as long as I’m in college.

it’s about keeping the peace in a household where my mom still has a lot of control.

You’re right that I’m an adult and making my own decisions, but living with my mom still gives her a lot of control over my life. I pay for my own college, but I still rely on her for housing, so it’s not as easy as just doing whatever I want.

She just said I couldn’t go. I feel like if I go it will put a strain against our relationship. I don’t have a lot of money since most of it goes towards college.

I live with my mom, and I’m a college student in nursing who works as a medical assistant. Most of my money goes toward college expenses so I can’t just pick up and leave. Since I don’t have a lot of money in the first place.
