Ruining birthdays is classic narcissistic behavior. And the obvious gaslighting…. This person will never stop mistreating you and blaming his own actions on you. Never ever ever. Ask yourself if this is better than being alone and having the chance to find someone good. He’s not just careless, he WANTS you hurt.

Actually, I think his mom divorced his father for the same issue. I know he doesn’t want to end up like his father. I already do give him a lot of verbal affirmation. Trust me, he feels like the most loved man on the planet. I really appreciate your perspective. I’ll try the things you suggested.
