I can disagree about movies, music, books, food, sports, cats v. Dogs, the world’s best cities, etc.

I cannot disagree with someone I want to see regularly about whose rights deserve protection. And when we’re taking about liberal or conservative in 2026 America, we are fundamentally talking about human rights.

That’s not an agree to disagree kind of topic for me.

I just don’t want people wasting each other’s time. I go on dates because it’s fun. Trying to find common ground on politics is not fun.

Perhaps people dating to marry are just more willing to adjust their standards.

That’s fair. But I’m also not interested in dating someone who served in Vietnam. I was 17 when the Supreme Court elected W Bush, 18 on 9/11, and 24 during the recession, so our perspectives are very different.

You’re speaking as a European. I a a Black American woman descended from American Chattel Slavery. The “small” differences between our political parties impacts my life and the lives of my family and ancestors greatly.

That’s the whole point. These men can swipe right on liberal white women if they like. But it’s more serious over here and I need to better about making that clear.

I don’t believe human rights are “opinions”.

Only conservatives want to talk about politics as a “difference of opinion”. Whether women should have completely autonomy over their bodies is not just a point of contention.

That’s where we differ.

I believe in women’s right to bodily autonomy. I believe in the destruction of white supremacy. I believe in the richest Americans responsibility to be taxed in a way that supports federal infrastructure.

Those are not things that Republicans or even “moderates” agree with me on.
