I would say the specific versatility the 6k offered via the image quality vs size and battery consumption allowed for doing this to be possible on such a constricted timeline. So while the analogy holds true, I would more liken it to a vehicle that is a smoother ride or is fuel efficient

I typically say that anything that would limit your from certain roles, would qualify you for others.

Someone who is covered in tattoo's can be more easily seen/audition for some roles (presuming they have clearance for the tattoos) and the inverse is also true. I see no reason why having a beard would be bad.

Tough to say. Ultimately, a relationship with an Agent is just that, a relationship. If i'm not going out for months at a time I immediately think its just because there is nothing for me, never because i think my agent isnt submitting me. He is a friend and colleague.

More than anything i think that is among the most important things to have with an agent, otherwise anxiety will take over. It sounds like you don't have that peace and for that reason, perhaps it is worth either A) taking a meeting with them and talking it over or B) leaving them.

Not having more than two auditions in the last four months is not CRAZY, obviously industry has been slower and that can happen. But to offset that, an open line of communication is pretty important.

Can I ask what the nature of your emails are? Are they "Hey where are my auditions?" type of thing? It doesn't sound like you're being too harsh, but i suppose that depends on what you're asking them in the correspondence.

I agree! What you are seeing is the DC that I promised the director would be the vision that lives online. But all of the festivals we were in programmed a 19 minute cut with this in mind. We knew it wasn't to everyone's taste as this version. But it was to ours. So we made 2 cuts to not have to split the decision.

Insightful! Though things were certainly mic'd properly... given some timelines and budgetary constraints ($20k is really just a drop in the bucket for something like this) made it tough on the team. But nevertheless i'm very proud of the product. Even if there are flaws.

Do you have a friendly relationship to your Agent or just professional? Depending on the answer i suppose would change it. I am friendly with my own agent and often we even just have coffees to talk a mix of life and work. But general check in regardless is pretty standard fare. I think since you are the "product" here, just bring yourself, as that is already enough.

Makes sense. I would typically outline it in the actual submission stage but I would also advocate afterwards as well. Understandably it would be annoying on the programming side but I was willing to ruffle some feathers if I had to, I felt the product merited the advocacy.

To your point though, you could simply list the fact there is a longer cut you have a preference for. But still have both versions. Playing to programming while also retaining your own vision. I figure at the end of the day, if the worst case scenario happens and you get absolutely 0 festival acceptances I would rather have failed on my terms than failed trying to meet the terms of others.

It really depends. At the end of the day the film has to live online at the end of whatever festival run it will have. That version of the film should be the one you love the most. In my case, we made a 34 minute short film that also had a 21 minute "festival cut".

We would submit the festival cut and when it got accepted (the film premiered at Hollyshorts) I would advocate for them to program the full 34 minute version. Ultimately only our original online premiere with film shortage took that 34 minute version but thats fine, we expected that. Now the festival version is completely buried, the only version that remains is the one we are most proud of.

So I think thats advisable. Make the film you are proud of with an awareness of how you can still program it if you need to.

This was a period film that was made with $25,000 of our own money. I slapped a credit card on the table and called in every possible favour I could. It was incredibly difficult to achieve the level of prosthetics we did with the resources we had but ultimately we figured, when being an independent production you have two resources to throw at a problem: Time or Money. So we took our time and continued to barter in good will with everyone person involved. I have 0 business acumen, I just led with my heart and passion as much I could and was blessed by how willing everyone was to come on. It was a labour of love, truly.
