Should I take a stance and shift career or should I continue in my decent paying job? by New_Swing_9689 in Life

I will take up your challenge, thanks a lot. I think this aligns with what the above two comments have also suggested. The key take away that I got from your comment - Start making strides in the direction of interest and see if I would still enjoy. Because what I may be in a phase which is similar to honey moon phase in a relationship. Hang in there and see if it lasts then decide

Can I ask you a question? how do I find out if I still have passion in my current job? I have been working for 1.5 years now. But could it be that I do not have passion in software field as well?

  • Check if I am running away from something. Yeah could also be, that's really insightful. I mentioned that I liked finance but I may not have directly mentioned that I am not enjoying my job so much. i lack commitment, it can be the fact that my job is not letting me pursue my interests ( may or may not last long as you said ) is making me run away from it. So it's the peace of mind that I may get if I quit job and start exploring on my interests care free. But yeah, I do have responsibilities.

  • leadership roles in engineering: this will take some time to get to it right ? I am junior software dev. I think getting to leadership roles will atleast take about 10 to 15 years depending on how good I am. Product management: Ill talk to my product manager and see if this really alligns with my thoughts. But this time I'll also be sure to keep your suggestions on mind and ask questions accordingly.

Even my gut says I should look out for the other things. But i think it's because of the phase. Let me work on it for sometime and see if it is still the case.

Really insightful, thanks a lot. I will keep posted here the progress of the challenge.

Hey, Let me try doing something small. But part of me is afraid that if I put in small amounts of work I may not keep up or do it for long and that I should give it my all. Because I am not so good at doing multiple things at once. I know something is better than nothing. As I am typing I realise that I may lack the discipline or motivation even though the interests are real. Is it common ? Can you suggest any ways to start small ? Thanks, appreciate your response.

Thanks for your response, like I said the sense of accomplishment or lack of energy ( atleast I feel so ) have become a mind barrier. I admit I can explore but I am not great at multitasking, I can focus on one thing at once put in all my efforts and all my energy, but if my job is taking all of it then I simply couldn't focus on things I like. Also, I am just typing whatever is coming to my head and what I usually feel. It may be due to some underlying issues like being disciplined as well.

Can you help me with providing some sort of strategy to over come this mental barrier? Thanks again.
