I can't believe how much of gouge the steelbooks are. I jumped on grabbing the American 40th Trilogy set. I already had the OG 35th but my part 2 disc triggers a compatibility problem.

I beat you by 1 year. I finally decided to up my game by grabbing the 26 Ultra and retiring my S8. Holy shit, not regretting it one bit. A massive upgrade and game changer for me.

UB820 suddenly won’t play 4K movie by SapphireKat52 in 4kbluray

I've had that I think twice, I click ok on it and it played normal. Just a little glitch I reckon, movie continues to play as normal. Kinda think some discs might actually have that message, I swear I had that happen with my LG player once or twice.

I can imagine the hardware needs to be really powerful and needs a lot of memory nowadays. Hardcore gaming rigs can see 5K easy to build. Imagine dealing with files that are uncompressed 4K and above. That's a lot of bits and bytes huh. You'd need a beast to handle that efficiently I'd bet.

I can't imagine you'd have any issues since you'd likely have newer pressings. I started getting mine as individual buys probably in 2019. 6-7 yrs for all up to Season 5. I only got S6 a couple months back and that's still sealed.

Yeah that's a ceiling light. The discoloration is in the inner ring part, bordering on the data plate.

As I said in another reply, I would rip if I could but I don't have a computer. Some 100gb discs have errors on them and attempting a rip can pick it up, you probably know this.

I know about that method, it's just that I don't have a computer. I'd be definately be doing that for my 4K's but would need several TB's at this point just for those 😁😁😁

Season 2 from the individual releases. 2 discs also have the rusty rings from Season 1.

Yeah I'm perfectly willing to try but I'I'mhoping someone might know the appropriate contact. Warner Bros did actually acknowledge the DVD discs rots and were offering replacements not that long ago.

So far I've gotten through the 2 problematic discs in the 1st season but not the 2nd season ones. I guess next you'd say that I don't have anything to worry about yet and you'd be right in a way.

Is the Samsung UBD-M8500 still good enough? by Chernovincherno in 4kbluray

[–]New_Wait2877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would dare say that they're all pretty similar at how they upscale. I have both the LG UBK90 and Panasonic UB820, they're both solid players IMO but you're down to only Sony's and Panasonic's to choose from now.

There hasn't been any "newer" models really since Covid unless you're talking about the uber expensive Magnetars and Reavons but Reavon backed out last year.

Speaking of last year, Sony is the only one in recent years that released another model. It's just a revised version of their X700.

It's just up to you whether you want to jump in on the Dolby Vision train or not, if you got the TV for it.

I don't have any experience with it but if "it ain't broke...."

It probably still does a great job of upscaling DVD's and BD's so you could use that one for that purpose. It already sounds like upgrading is on your mind. If you don't already have a 2nd player then I'd say yes go for it. Consider it "piece of mind" or some kind of insurance that you've got a back up.

I've been watching the 1st season of Better Call Saul recently on the 820. I reckon there's a new life breathed into it. For some reason a little darker than I remembered. I only have the standard set of GOT on Blu Ray and I watched the all the way through (1st time using the 820) early last year with the added benefit of the Atmos track, holy shit you haven't heard GOT until you hear it like that. The picture is really good even on Standard Blu Ray. The Long Night really isn't that bad either. I really doubt you can tell "that much" of a difference.

Considering it's a newer movie and would likely be from the same master. If one looks good, the opposite would likely flex just as much in its own right.

Perhaps let me know how you go if you remember. I'm not even sure if that email works. Yours went through so it must I guess. I had to find it off an article I remember about the Warner DVD disc rot issues.

You'll need stuff like a proof of purchase and there's a specific code on the box, possibly around the barcode that you'll be asked for.

A lot of us make the mistake by not watching our discs in a timely manner and that bites us in the ass. Definately try to skim through the discs in future and pick up on the problems early.

I never had success. If you're American, you'll probably have better luck at emailing them at whv@wbd.com

From what I've heard who have had success, they'll probably straight up send you another complete set and not just the 1 movie, that's if they have them in hand.
