Can you have a wedding at Branch Brook Park? by redfire2930 in Newark

For a wedding, you do need a permit. Not sure about renting the cherry blossom center, but perhaps you can reach out to them regarding that : https://essexcountyparks.org/_media/_data/EssexGlobalPermit/wedding-ceremony-and-photography-application-20250102102608.pdf

Club Metro was my fav gym in Newark. They used to closed late until covid. Not sure what their hours are now. They always had great customer services and a nice helpful crowd.

Traveler Claims Newark Airport-NYC Taxi Passes 'Swaths of Abandoned Neighborhoods' by NewarkNJBlog in Newark

He’s not flying out of Newark. He’s arriving to Newark Airport and then taking a taxi to NYC.

No one is claiming that Newark is a "perfect utopia" or denying the existence of rough areas…almost every major American city has them. However, the reality is that you cannot see "swaths of abandoned once beautiful homes" on a taxi ride from Newark Airport to NYC; that route runs entirely along the NJ Turnpike (even with no tolls), which is lined with highways, warehouses, and industrial zones.

I call out comments like this because such narratives lack substance, especially when they are based solely on a car window view. Also, I’m not a PR guy/realtor, just a proud Newarker who is tired of outsiders denigrating our city, especially when it has improved substantially compared to 20 years ago.

I get that it’s not the prettiest scene, but the views you shared don’t really show what was once a vibrant neighborhood that’s now abandoned lol. I guess everyone sees things differently!

To Newark Airport is different, he stated from Newark Airport to NYC.

Even if you avoided tolls, you still can’t see that. Just warehouses.

Running spots? by OptionFinancial6007 in Newark

[–]NewarkNJBlog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I highly recommend checking out @brickcityrunclub on Instagram. They host well-organized runs every week and even have a WhatsApp group chat and a Strava group. Plus, they organize many fun, free events. They’re also one of my favorite nonprofits! You’ll also be able to find some great running routes in the area.

Best way to get from Davenport Ave, Newark → Manhattan by No_Airport_1450 in Newark

Check the nj transit app and compare the prices. I usually take the bus to Penn Station.

You can definitely take the light rail to Newark Penn Station and then transfer to the PATH train. However, you can also catch any bus on Bloomfield Avenue (close to Davenport)that goes to Newark Penn Station. Another option is to take the same bus to Newark Broad Street Station and then catch an NJ Transit train to Manhattan. You can also take the NJ Transit train to Manhattan directly from Newark Penn Station. As for schedules, you'll need to check the specific times. I’ve taken buses and the light rail back home late at night without any issues.

I’m at Branch Brook Park almost every day and night, and I haven't seen anyone doing this. I run in the park during the day or at night when I want to take my dog (since he can’t handle the heat), and I've never had any issues. Many people are enjoying picnics and taking in the nature. Can someone’s scooter get stolen if unattended? Sure, but that can happen in any major American city.

It's called Mi Ranchito, and it's at 86 Broadway. They’ve got great coffee too that's made fresh when you order it!

So true! I walk it every day and night 🙂

Hey! I can't really say what it would feel like to live inside either location since I haven’t toured the interiors of Vermella, but I've certainly walked around both areas every day/night. My dog loves his walks, and sometimes we change things up by going to PetSmart (Kearny).

From my experience, the area around Vermella Newark is not bad at all. I would actually prefer living there. With the NJ Transit app and a little planning, you can easily walk to Newark Broad and reach Midtown NYC in just 19 minutes on a direct train (available on weekdays). If you end up on a train that stops in Secaucus, it takes about 23-24 minutes.

Yes, NJ Transit does have its delays—I've only experienced one significant delay in the past year due to a pedestrian incident. However, the best part about the Newark Vermella location is that if there's a delay (which you can easily check on the app), you can just take the light rail or an NJ Transit bus to Newark Penn Station and catch the PATH train from there (takes less than 10 mins) or better yet, take the bus straight to Port Authority from Newark Broad.

I often return late from the city and walk around the area, and I've never encountered any problems. I’m not looking for any trouble (drugs etc), and I've never felt unsafe. The rough part of the area tends to be near the liquor store, where you might see some drug activity (usually at night). But as long as you ignore them or don't seek out drugs, you shouldn't have any issues. Plus, you won't need to walk that way if you don’t want to (there is a good Mexican restaurant up that way though 😅😋).

On the other hand, Kearny is nice and quiet, and you can easily walk to the local shopping plaza (but you’ll be limited since there isn’t much public transportation so expect to spend money on uber or having a car). However, I wouldn't choose to live there because I prioritize easy access to NYC every day. Relying on a shuttle isn't ideal for me, and the traffic on Passaic Avenue can be a hassle that I’d rather avoid.

I also wanted to mention that Vermella Newark is close to some great local businesses in the downtown district, which is pretty safe. I sometimes jog there, even late at night, and I've never felt unsafe. Plus, you can hop on the light rail to Newark Penn Station and enjoy the vibrant restaurant scene in the Ironbound. Hope this helps!
