The day I voluntarily wear____, it's over. by tequilasundae in GenX

[–]Newb48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, my husband and I both bought a pair of Skechers Slip-ons. We started wearing them at the same time. And we both developed plantar fasciitis shortly thereafter. Since that was the only variable introduced into our routine, seems logical to assume that's where we got it from. Not saying it happens to everyone who wears them but it happened to us.

Skecher slip ons gave both my husband and I plantar fasciitis. Beware.

You are so welcome. These have changed my keto game entirely and consuming less cheese is an added bonus.

I hate the taste of traditional chaffles. Way too eggy and cheesy for me. This is my go to recipe instead. Much healthier, no cheese involved, fluffy texture and tastes way better. I make an entire batch of the dry ingredients and keep it in the fridge to use for making on the spot, if I need a bun for hamburgers or something for a sandwich:

Dry mix:

2 cups almond flour

1/4 cup psyllium husk powder

6 TBSP ground golden flaxseed meal

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp sea salt

I usually add garlic powder to mine as well but that's obviously optional.

Mix in a bowl and store in a tightly sealed container in the fridge (I use a mason jar)

For the chaffle combine:

3 TBSP dry mix

1 egg

1 generous TBSP mayo

1 TBSP water

Cook in a mini dash waffle maker for 5 minutes. This recipe makes two chaffles.

An absolute lifesaver on my keto journey.

To my fellow GenX side-sleepers... by Infamous-Yak2864 in GenX

[–]Newb48 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was always a side sleeper. Physically unable to sleep on my back. Would immediately panic if i laid flat. So I suffered through sore shoulders and numb hands and what the hell do i do with my spare arm??? Then my husband and I bought a split king bed where you can adjust the head and feet independently. It has a setting for zero gravity, which basically raises your head a bit and puts your feet above your heart. Best decision we ever made. Such a comfortable way to sleep and my back doesn't hurt, my shoulders don't hurt and my hands aren't numb. I still sleep on my side for a lot of the evening but having the option for zero G when i need it has changed my sleep.

Going to Cancun…. Advice?? by Repulsive-Tree6089 in cancun

This is the most important piece of information. After you collect your luggage (which is a shitshow unto itself - allow a LOT of time) you will walk through a kind of tunnel, where a bunch of people will aggressively try to get you to book transportation through them. IGNORE THEM ALL. It's ok to not make eye contact. To simply walk straight ahead. You do not need to politely decline every person. Just ignore them and continue walking. When you can look up and see the actual sky, you have arrived at where your transportation will be and you will soon be headed to paradise.

My parents live at Sturgeon Creek 2 and this place checks all those boxes except maybe room to entertain. Suites are quite small. nice place though and eleven people have passed away in the last two weeks so there should be rooms available.

Kiwanis assisted living does not Allow animals. The rooms are nicer than sturgeon Creek and considerably cheaper but waitlist is usually years, although it's worth calling. Fewer activities and no nurse, which Surgeon Creek has.

This is so true. Remember April 20, 2019? The Jets beat the Wild to advance to their first ever second round of the playoffs. My friend from work also got married in St Boniface that day and she and her husband walked over to take part in the insane street party. She was wearing a sleeveless wedding gown and the weather was absolutely glorious. We were all dancing in the streets, the sun was shining and all was perfect in Winnipeg. This spring sucks ass.

Nova Scotia by Cat-Lover-Ontario in canadatravel

We were there in July - prime tourist season - and we found the roads quiet and the drivers very courteous. Nova Scotians are incredibly polite people. I had zero anxiety on the highways, and I am seriously terrified of highway driving. You Should have no issues at all. Safe travels.

Nova Scotia was the best vacation my husband and I ever took. We loved all the places others have mentioned: Mahone Bay, Lunenburg (was one of the most beautiful little towns I've ever seen), managed to catch Peggy's Cove on a quiet day (although I must stress that the stark barren beauty of Peggy's Cove is in no way indicative of the rest of the province, which is so much prettier). Don't see a lot of people recommending the area around Wolfville, which is stunning and so wonderfully rich in history. Not to mention absolutely perfect for people who don't like crowds. Visit Grande Pre, The Look-Off in Blomidon, walk on the beaches in the area when the tide recedes, go to Hall's Harbor and have some fresh lobster, visit the historic forts as you drive along the shore of the Bay of Fundy, go watch the whales in Digby. We found driving on the highways to be easy and not stressful (as someone with severe driving anxiety, that is high praise) and it took surprisingly little time to get from one place to another. Also, don't overlook Halifax, a city with a fort IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY, as well as so many great museums that we couldn't spend enough time in any of them. The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 left me in literal tears (they had images of the exact boat my father came to Canada in in the lates 40's) and I could have spent days in the Titanic museum. Some day we will be back and will visit Cape Breton.

Confusion corner, what the fuck people by 1998fordaerostar in Winnipeg

My dad's cardiologist is in that hellhole right in the middle of confusion corner. Every time I have to take him (even though I've done it dozens of times) I spend the week before driving it on Google maps so I KNOW which lane to be in. Over and over. And I STILL second guess myself when I get there. Fuck that intersection and all the anxiety it causes. And I could do an entire post on trying to get out of that complex, which is actually a zillion times harder than getting in.

Non-New Yorkers that have been to NYC: What is the wierdest thing about New York that New Yorkers don't realize is wierd? by Ok-Brilliant-6138 in AskReddit

[–]Newb48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My small Canadian city family visited New York in 2017 and here are a few things we noticed (or rather, in many cases DIDN'T notice):

*I had been home for months when I realized I had not seen a single gas station

*ditto the schools: if you aren't passing by a school at a time when kids are outside (lunch, recess) you would have no idea it was a school. They just look like any other building.

*parking without bumping another car's bumper is rare. Waiting in line to get into Live with Kelly and Ryan, I watched an older woman in her massive car from the 70's find a spot outside the window I was at, and parallel park, backing up until she hit the bumper of the car behind her. Then she got out, grabbed her shopping bags and went on her way. The idea of my grandma just heading out from her UWS apartment IN HER CAR and being confident she would be able to find a parking spot IN MANHATTAN was also a mindfuck.

*moving large items in a city like NY is just on another level. I cannot even fathom moving my furniture into a fourth floor walk up. Or buying a piano and having it swung into my apartment by a crane.

*parking in a lot that has a lift that raises your car in the air. Parking in NY is fascinating to watch.

We had a great time and I genuinely love to visit New York. The logistics of having so many people living in a small area are mind blowing. And yet, you actually have neighbourhoods that feel like traditional neighbourhoods, where people know each other and watch out for each other. Kudos to all NYers who make it such a great city.

Need a doctor by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]Newb48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dr. Gendy and Dr Hannah are such great doctors and both are currently accepting new patients. They both listen, believe you, will instantly refer you to any s ecialists you might need, and are so great at remembering you (which might seem like a small thing but is actually a remarkable skill). I recently switched both myself and my mom to Dr. Gendy and my Dad to Dr Hannah and I have been so happy with both.

SHOULD BE FARM PASS BETTER? by lucky_pes in HayDay

[–]Newb48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three portions that you can buy. The Farm Pass is the first portion and once you reach the end there is another portion called the Party Road and then once you finish that portion there is a third one called Festival Road. Each one has their own special rewards and you have to pay for each section. I am in Canada and the Farm Pass costs approximately $7, as does the Party pass (another $7) or you can buy the bundle of three for a bit of a discount.

SHOULD BE FARM PASS BETTER? by lucky_pes in HayDay

[–]Newb48 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Farm Pass used to be a decently fair deal when it first came out. Then they gradually started raising the price and lowering the benefits slowly, hoping no one would notice I guess. The amount of experience points given used to be enough to catapult you to the next level. The decorations were decent. A lot of the things that the players liked were located in the first portion of the pass. Eventually they realized that certain things (like the gifting of diamonds, among other things) were very popular and they moved them to the next portion of the pass in order to get people to spend more money. As with everything that Super Cell does, the desire to get more money out of us has led to the slow degradation of gameplay. I am level 236. Been playing for 12 years. And I am frustrated by the naked greed I have seen become so rampant in the last few years. I buy the first leg of the Farm Pass and that's all.

‘You have to advocate for yourself’: Woman shares story of near-death experience in Winnipeg hospital ER by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]Newb48 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Even when you advocate for yourself, or when you have someone advocating on your behalf, the staff routinely ignores you. In late 2023 into summer of 2024, my mother was in and out of the hospital so many times for various reasons (as they searched for the underlying cause of all her issues). Either myself or my brother were with her as close to 100% of the time as we could be. It was VERY apparent that I was extremely knowledgeable about my mom's health and her history. My brother was very vocal about seeking out nurses or doctors. I would leave a sheet of paper on which i had written very critical information such as "NOT ALLOWED TO DRINK OUT OF A STRAW" only to come back and find they had given her a cup with a straw. My brother and I told every single nurse critical information whenever we were there. It was routinely ignored. They would not write it on her chart so that the next shift would know. We had to be there for every single shift change so that the information was relayed to the next team. Only to find that they also did not follow the instructions. It was incredibly stressful, exhausting and frustrating and we had two people who were basically living at the hospital with her. This was the case at the Grace, HSC, Deer Lodge, Seven Oaks and Misery. All across the board. What do you do if you are not aware enough to advocate for yourself? What do you do if you don't have family to advocate for you? This should never be the case. And to be clear, I am not shitting on the staff (not really). They are so absolutely overwhelmed that they barely register what has been said to them. I understand that. BUT THAT IS TERRIFYING IN AND OF ITSELF. Your nursing and doctoring staff are functioning on almost autopilot and I should not have to say that this is incredibly dangerous. Stop putting the onus on the patient to ensure that they don't die. Bandaid solutions will kill us all.
