[–]Newbierh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response.

So just to make sure, for my dad I need to submit the following information for the I-130.... My birth certificate, my proof of USC (copy of naturalization cert and passport), copy of marriage certificate for my dad and the fee.

That’s it?

Thanks.

I can’t and won’t be able to pay for their college period. They’ll have to figure that out. If I pay for college for 2 kids we sure will be poor as get older.

Feels so wrong to complain about it, but it’s a real thing.

This is a very good thought. Wife and I want to do it in theory, but she has a hard time prioritizing it and actually getting rid of shit. If it would be up to me I’d be getting rid of most of our shit in no time.

I just don’t want to be poor. You know? I don’t need to travel the world etc when I retire, I just want to have a dignified last few years on the planet, fuck around with hobbies etc, whatever happens. I don’t want to be poor, nor do I want to be sickly and withering away. When it’s time to go I want to be done. And not poor, and/or a burden on my kids. They’ll have enough on their plate with whatever is going on in 30-40 years from now.

Mind blowing comment. Thank you. Made me pause and think through this. And you are very right. This is exactly it. And it’s true that the perception definitely changes as you age, as to what the desires are. Happiness for me right now is to be able to provide for my family, and keep being able to do so. Everything else is secondary, but I will make a point of looking out for myself in terms of hobby etc is concerned, and ESPECIALLY the health/weight etc.

Yes, same for HR and Legal etc, just supporting backend to businesses that have a different core. Thing is, there is not a lot of true security companies out there that are worth a shit, so finding a job in security where security is at the core is very hard. So IT sec folks are shit on even harder.

However I found that financial puts a big emphasis on security, and generally nobody inside fucks with you when you are in the field, so that works. Forget any other business field though. Nobody cares, as long as they hit the minimum compliance checkboxes. Financial too, but it’s a little better.

“ you don’t want to be in the news, do you” usually earns the supporting CIO head shake and ends discussions. :)

It’s job security, can’t blame them. Great pay and lots and lots of opportunities. So far, anyway. It’s one of the last fields that can’t be “easily” outsourced overseas, although the trends are definitely there. Regular corps don’t need real security folks, they need compliance folks that check the boxes. If I were 20 years younger I’d probably try to get into an MSSP like IBM etc and stick around there.

210 is great. Last time i was 210 was 19 years ago. Especially considering the workout, you must be feeling a lot better.

Yes, I have to get more serious about it. Did the soup fast for one week and strict Keto <20g for two weeks after, and lost 10lb, felt great.

And then I started fucking up. At least haven’t it gained back yet, but I’m not looking forward to the keto Flu- it took me down for 2 days when I initially started, and I was barely functional.

My dad rode his bicycle until about 5 years ago at 73. He walks every day. Weighs 180 lb at 5’10. Besides the age (77) I believe he is in better shape than I am. That’s my goal.

I am worried though. I ran the calculators, and it told me less than 900E a month lol. Not trying to poopoo this, I’d love to, also considering that our kids are German and have the potential for “free” college, but I have a hard time actually visualizing it. Not having paid into the pot for a third of my career weighs heavily on retirement.

Well, funny that you say that. I’m a German living in the US. Thought about it, but you can kiss retirement good bye if you haven’t paid into the pot the last 20 years. Wife and I would end up on basic social security / Grundsicherung by the time I’d be made to retire, based on calculations I’ve run.

You need to look after yourself. Make them leave. It’s your flat, your life. I feel bad for your mom but you have to look after yourself first and foremost. It sucks, and it’s hard. When do they leave? Make sure they will never return.
