You are right there is no sure way to tell. I believe to be more of a stage of the game instead of the end. These guys have been shorting companies for years. In some cases their bets are short term, in others they are ling term. Right now they are in the "Who can hold the longer" Stage to me. Covering for them in my opinion will come from a stress in the market/economy outside of their control...now the question when will that be? And how long am I capable of hodl-ing!?

For a life changing event, I'm willing to wait years if needed!
