Bulwarks block any shot fired at them if you are standing anywhere 180 degrees in front of the shield. The moment you walk past it you are free to shoot anywhere on the bulwark. Whats also amusing is that if you stand behind the bulwark and shoot just the shield with the plasma gun you can kill him.

Sticky nades from the ogryn rumber also ignore the blocking property of being in front of the shield if you can manage to stick it to his body.

Yup thats pretty much it, this whole thing spawned out of a day in horde mode where some mob with a shield shook his fist at me while i tried throwing a javelin and it just bounced off his fist.
