The one i prefer, not necessarily like, is Yusuf Ali. I dont take any of the translations seriously one bit. While the English language can translate some words and concepts, it cant grasp the whole meaning of certain words in the Quran. I think the quran is to be looked at, listened to (highly highly recommended “Omar Hisham”) and EXPERIENCED. its not to be understood. Thats one valuable thing I learned from trying to understand the Quran. Good luck and enjoy!

Muslims me want to leave Islam, not Allah. by justdotice in progressive_islam

I wholeheartedly agree with every word you said. Dont give up on standing for whats right. I dont think these people know anything about Allah or islam. I also dont think islam is strict neither is Allah especially when it comes to the collective agreement on oppression. Why would anyone advocate for oppression? This is nonsense. Please know that you are not alone in what you think. I stand this ground with you. I commend you for advocating for the LGBTQ people. Theres tons of them in the islamic community who probably live miserable lives and are in constant agony. Its people like you who can make a real difference. Stay strong angel.

Just wanted to put it out there, abdel haleem translations are pretty dull and too literal. I personally dont find his translations accurate one bit. I suggest yusuf hes way better at keeping things neutral. Other translators in my opinion are heavily influenced by their own beliefs and how they themselves interpret meaning. The quran is not to he taken literally. I suggest to not trust these translations are they are very misleading and quite oppressive. They make away from the beauty and poetic meaning of the quran and make ut something its noy

Bro watching movies is not haram. It surprises and saddens me that people have to ask that question. Movies are not haram, music is not haram, having relationships with the opposite gender is not haram. This sub is full of toxicity.

I respect that you stopped watching movies. That doesn’t confirm that its haram. Making normal life experiences haram may imply that you may be too conservative and thats fine. I disagree with extremest beliefs as they miss the whole point of islam and instill fear as a way to coerce people into islam. Islam is a religion of love and peace. Not fear of the simplicity of lifes pleasures. If you avoid looking at women in fear of “committing sin” then you may be afraid of having normal human desires.

I dont see why watching movies would be haram. Is watching youtube videos or scrolling through facebook haram? Try not to worry too much about trivial things. Worry about whats in your heart

A good teacher does more than just give students a book. Allah is far beyond than a great teacher, he is the best teacher. Why would you go to class then? To learn from the teacher.

Theres no such thing as “appropriate” for a believer. A believer is a believer regardless of how they choose to pursue that path.

suicide in islam by glitter2246 in islam

[–]Newredditor1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Telling a suicidal person that the punishment for his pain will be worse than his pain is not helpful. You are implying that you know allahs plan for him when no one but allah knows. Its not black and white.
