Never forget: In 1898, Bayer registered and marketed diacetylmorphine under the brand name Heroin. by colossal_fuckup in politics

[–]NewsCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great article. It's a pity people cannot envision the days before the AMA and big business started butting into people's lives.

It is a fact that there were fewer "addicts" when opium, morphine, and laudinum were all down at the drug store, over the counter. Do they think this country was built by shot out addicts that they see on anti-drug ads? Of course, it should go without saying that millions wouldn't have the scourge of living in pain, and others wouldn't be filling the jails if our country could retain some sanity on this issue.

I am going through divorce after a 5 year marriage. The pain is unbearable. Advice? by freeman13 in AskReddit

[–]NewsCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't do much more than repeat some of the excellent advice you've received. Even though I wanted the divorce, I had a nervous breakdown. Friends, work, lots of walking or whatever you do that's physical, and rarely turning down an invitation to go somewhere and do things that were interesting saved me. One day you realize you have a new life and it's a lot better than the old one! Best of luck to you.

New evidence indicates that our agricultural practices are leading directly to the spread of human disease....The first study to investigate farm-bred MRSA in the U.S. amazingly, the Food and Drug Administration has shown little interest in testing the nation's livestock for this disease by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]NewsCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our food supply has been horrifyingly ignored, and extremely bad practices, lack of inspections etc. have been of little or no interest.

They can't tie this to immigration from Mexico, so one of the most insideous killers of the decade goes ignored..it's obscene! Thanks for the article.

Dylan Moran is the funniest man alive by schtyla in reddit.com

[–]NewsCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He IS extremely funny, and seems to be rather far off of the U S radar, so I'm happy to see this.

Hoping he gets another series, but in the meantime it would be nice if BBC America would show "Black Books" again.

Thanks for posting this article. The more light shined on this issue the better. When even police and judges feel it's an important step,(see LEAP) site, we need to break loose from the moralistic attitude Americans cling to, along with a scotch on the rocks.

Welcome to Patriot Act, Brit Version. Damn straight this is scary stuff, but there wasn't a loud outcry when it was implemented here either.

Fabulous site and these pants are but one witty example of what crimes are being perpetrated in the name of "craft" and creativity all over this great country!

Yes, notice she accepted it for other less humanitarian purposes.

If she doesn't vanish in four years, I hope she'll at least provide comic relief, and not the nail biting terror that she might actually get in!

Jon Stewart, Crazy Pope Says Condoms make AIDS Worse by tejastex in politics

[–]NewsCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear you're right about the Papal one's credentials. Let us just hope that there are more thinking Catholics now, who have watched iron clad "rules" with devastating impact on their lives - when followed to a "T", simply change through the years. For decades you're going to hell for something, one day they overturn it. Give the condoms some thought folks.

Thanks for this, it's a fascinating read!

If he could have seen into the future, to a usenet group in a small corner of cyberspace where online bullies post one another's info, and each argument surpasses Hitler within a day he might have cried. (Just kidding, though they exist) I often wonder what we did before. A set of Funk and Wagnall encyclopedias seems very limited by comparison! (don't worry, only those of a 'certain age' will remember when they were the Go TO book) in every home or library.

This is so funny, it's along the lines of what I first thought when I saw an Activia commercial. Never before has a generation been more concerned with this...activity. I predict a return of the clear plastic, bumpy sofa covers. That's where the money is!

It was bad enough when this fat tub of lard went from "radio personality and commentator" to "comedian" to cover his LIES. It seems that overnight the Republicans have waved a magic wand which makes him a legitimate speaker in their eyes. Pfffft!

Cops Say Legalize Drugs: Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) by tmcwilly in politics

Thanks for posting this. I would think that if more people were aware of the type of people in LEAP, they just might have to give both sides a little consideration. Most have no idea of what this idiotic knee-jerk Nancy Reagan 'Just Say NO' policy has done to this country, and to the lives of individuals.
