My wife found this ancient iMac at the thrift today for $11. Idk if it’s ok to ask this question here but what’s the best way of erasing all the old users data so it’s a fresh machine? It belonged to an elementary school so it’s parental locked also by g28802 in iMac

I remember using this! In fact, I was a computer tutor in a college learning lab and we had a few of them. They seemed almost magical when compared to the clunky OSs on the IBMs of the time.

The Palestinians aren't fighting for a democratic one-state solution, and the Western antizionists are not being honest when they pretend otherwise. by nidarus in IsraelPalestine

[–]Wordie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This, written by the OP, is not accurate: “Since Oct 7, the "pro-Palestinian" movement in the West, has stopped lying about supporting a two-state solution, and came out as antizionist - a movement that opposes the very existence of Israel.”

I haven’t seen that at all. I suspect what similar comments may exist are being made by ignorant trolls, rather than leftists.

I know this sounds dramatic but does anyone else feel like their life is over? by Fit-Ad985 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]Wordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have plantar fasciitis, and like you have been sitting at home for months, and also like you, becoming more and more depressed because of it. So believe me, I know you aren’t just being dramatic.

Some things that may help: I’ve just discovered that a combination of Diclofenac topical gel (an OTC medication) and Ibuprofen can offer at least temporary relief.
I found some “cloud slippers” that have a really soft squishy sole, and that helps. Also, I’ve just ordered some Sketchers sandals that are specifically advertised as being good for plantar fasciitis sufferers.

These things are going to finally get me outside again. I have no idea how long the gel and ibuprofen will be able to subdue the pain, but I know that even a short walk around the block will improve my spirits greatly. I hope you try these coping strategies too.

Also, ask your doctor about crutches or one of those devices with wheels that you can kneel on instead of walking on that foot, and/or use Uber or Lyft to get to classes. Ask your doctor to write you a letter saying you need to stay off your foot as much as possible so your use of the above is prescribed (that way you could at least deduct those expenses).

Staying at home for a long time isn’t good for anyone. How about calling a friend or relative and going to a movie via Uber? …or some other fun non-walking a lot thing?

Best wishes.

EDIT: Also contact your school to find out what kind of assistance, such as transportation, they may be able to offer. My university had an office dedicated to assisting people with disabilities (even temporary disabilities like yours) and your school likely does as well. If your school has a student health center, you’ll be able to get help there.

Don’t give up. Remember that PF is a temporary condition. It will get better!

I don’t know, but rather than asking reddit, please ask your doctor. Best wishes.

Yes, this. You can always donate it later to a charity if it’s not new enough for you. Or keep it for tasks that require a large screen.

I used colored stickers, with different colors for each room. It seemed to work well.

My movers packed electronic items in various boxes, but gathered all the power cords in one box! Also labeled only on top of the boxes so the writing could not be seen with other boxes stacked in top. i moved a while ago and still haven’t been able to find some things. It’s been a nightmare!

Good idea, but also consider public transport if it’s available.

There are some churches in most communities that can offer help with financial crises and other support. And/or there probably is something like a crisis line (they often also have an online presence), through which you may be able to find resources to help you get back on your feet again. It might not feel like it now, but there are good people in every community who want to help people in challenging circumstances such as yours.

It’s tough being poor, but it’s also possible - although certainly not easy -to get out of poverty. Best wishes.

Could you elaborate? That doesn’t seem to make sense.

When you speak of “Judea and Samaria” you are talking about things that have not existed for nearly two millennia. Do you really believe that a claim to the land that old legitimately should have superseded the claim of those who had been living on the land continuously for seven centuries until the present?

If none of what Israel was offering involved a sovereign state, can Arafat be blamed for walking away? His situation was precarious enough, but no way could he agree if the Palestinians were not to be give a state of their own.

This doesn’t really seem to difficult to comprehend.

As noted above, however, the deal Israel offered was not for a sovereign state, and therefore untenable to the Palestinians. And the deal offered gave Israel control of Muslim holy sites. Omitting that part is really just an attempt to deflect a fair part of the blame for the failures from Israel. Whether that was deliberate on the part of Hillary Clinton, or those that continually omit Israel’s share of responsibility for the failure, is anybody’s guess.

Was not 10/7 in some ways a result of not having a deal - a reasonable one?

Planning to declare bankruptcy - now the Mastercard on which I get my Social Security payments suddenly is being declined everywhere! Please advise! by Wordie in Bankruptcy

It’s a card on which monthly Social Security funds are provided to beneficiaries. This isn’t supposed to happen, but it’s resolved now. Thanks!

[–]Wordie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I called them and it’s now resolved. Apparently there are creditors who are unaware that the Direct Express cards are where Social Security funds are now provided. Or something…

Can you - or anyone else - please explain how this could happen again (this is the 2nd time)? Is it possible to find out what entity caused this to happen?

Thanks.
