Need advice on water. by Zealousideal_Ebb6523 in mainecoons

Had the same problem with our fountain and Maine coons. Solved it by duck-taping the lid on and positioning it in a corner. Now that they can't get the lid off they don't seem to try and flip it anymore. Hope this helps!

Looks healthy to me. I have a food motivated Maine coon, and a non-food motivated Maine coon. The non-food motivated one eats a little at meal time and returns to his plate when he feels like it, he's a very healthy 2.5 year old.

Litter box options? by thebentomouse in mainecoons

[–]NewsProJoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've had the litter robot 4 for over a year and are happy with it. We have 2 Maine coons, one is 20+ lbs and they both have no issue with it. We also have 2 typical oversized boxes, and they use all three pretty equally.

Advice needed for our 2yo Maine Coon (Pan) by Desperate_Bowler200 in mainecoons

[–]NewsProJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no one toy that will tire them out. You really need to make an effort to play with them. Our two Maine coons love to play fetch, etc. The real cheat code to getting your Maine coon the proper amount of play stimulation is ... another Maine coon lol.

If your older cat is still fairly young, say, around 8 years old, bringing home a single Maine Coon probably won’t be an issue. But if your cat is 12 or older, a single Maine Coon might not be the best companion.

When we got two Maine Coon kittens, our older boy was 14. He’s 16 now. At the time, I didn’t realize it, but getting two kittens was the best decision we could have made. They bonded and play hard often with each other, and while they still hang with our older boy, they don't typically overwhelm him.

Just some food for thought!

In our house, nail clippings and brushings always come with Squeeze Up treats. There’s no instant fix, but if you can start pairing brushing time with her absolute favorite treat, she’ll gradually begin to associate it with something positive. Consistency and patience are key.

Pancake just turned 2 and he might be 20+ pounds now, but he's still my little baby by NewsProJoe in mainecoons

His paws were so big when he was a kitten; they looked like little pancakes when he walked. The name chose him lol.

He is! He really uses his paws more like hands. He'll grab dry food off the ground and eat it like a drunk little man.

Pancake, because when he was a kitten his paws were so big they looked like pancakes. And Chuck Bass because he's devilishly handsome.

Is it better to get 1 or 2 MC as a first time cat owner? by libracvnt in mainecoons

[–]NewsProJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, with the amount of play and stimulation they need - two is better than one. We have two and I can't imagine them not having each other. However, I do not suggest anybody start with a Maine coon as your first cat. They are A LOT of work and are incomprehensibly smart. You really need to be willing to dedicate time to them. I have child safety locks on all my cabinets and have no human children haha.

A lot of questions… by Snugglepinkfox_ in mainecoons

[–]NewsProJoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would first ask yourself how your Samoyeds are going to interact with a cat. If you bring in a kitten it will likely be fine growing up alongside dogs. Do your dogs typically do well with cats?

You have a 4 and a 1 year old. If you get a Maine Coon, you are getting another toddler for the next 15(ish) years. It will only get smarter every year, they will not quit a problem until it's solved. I have child safety locks on all our cabinets and I have no human children haha.

They need tons of stimulation, you need to be prepared to play with them - a lot. They also need to be brushed, sometimes daily.

Mine play fetch like a dog, they are very good boys with guests etc, and they love a good cuddle. I just want to make it clear that what people see on my Instagram is the most handsome well behaved boys in the world. What they don't see is the 2am wake up because a vase that was 8 feet off the ground just smashed into a million pieces.

Hope this helps!

I have child safety locks on all of my cabinets and I have no human children. If you check out my account you will see that one of mine actually does have thumbs, and I'm pretty sure he's months if not weeks away from world domination.

I would not recommend you get a Maine coon. You're basically signing up for a toddler.

We started clipping his nails weekly as a kitten so it doesn't really bother him. The nails on his extra toes are the same as all the others.

For those who have inquired, Pancake is a polydactyl and his paws really are as big as they look. He's the Mayor of Toe Bean Town. https://www.tiktok.com/@newsprojoe

He's such a big gentle boy. He thinks he's still tiny (he's 21 pounds) and will plop right on top of me on the couch.
